When you're down a rook and your opponent is two moves from promoting a pawn with check, hope chess is your only resource.

When you are weak on one color of squares, you are really weak on both colors. (Bronstein, paraphrased)

    Related:

When a player has a losing position and is weak on one color, the opponent's breakthrough will come on the other color. (Neil McDonald, paraphrased)

And I can't remember who said this – again, I paraphrase:

When you have a choice of rook moves, consider carefully the plusses and minuses of each move. Once you come to a conclusion and have decided on moving a rook, move the other one instead.

Doubled rooks on one file supporting a pawn just won me a checkmate from the jaws of defeat! Thank you!

I knew most of these from either general logic or years of playing, but there have still been a few that I have never considered before. Much obliged, Sir.

    Hope chess was the bestπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

If you find a good move, find a better one.
    -Ruy Lopez

I always come to the comments to laugh hahahahah

I basically agree with almost everything you are saying Jason, but I slightly disagree with the concept of never moving your pawns in front of your castled king. An occasional exception is when you are bringing a pawn to h3 or h6 to prevent further knight advances. Just don't overdo it.

I have a very specific reason for every chess move I’ve ever made…. Idk what else to do

    Following these principles
Learning 3 opening for both sides
    not hanging pieces
And practicing your tactics can alone help you get to 1600-1800

I've learned that Rooks are worth 4 Points…
May be a german thing, but i think it enhaces the meaning of "a knight and a bishop are worth more (3+3) than a rook an a pawn (4+1)

Very good I like these principals. Thank u

you did not show the example of trading passive pieces for active pieces..

All basic rules I know are told here but only one…that is….space advantage

Bishops should be equally as good as knight as pawn blockers.

Best educational channel for beginners on YouTube! I would have added "A pinned piece is a useless piece.".

Like it’s real life counterpart, the Knight belongs in the midst of Battle.

Good sir, I'm pretty new to chess, but I'm not seeing how this pawn in front of black's king can't take the knight 17:03. How is this a checkmate?

First 34 rules: How can you advance yourself

This is good for the very low-ranked players, but a person using them afterward will get cream. Why? Because the "generally speaking" pile up. Example: "Move knight before bishops" contradict by the Ruy Lopez opening, which is a common opening. One could reduce the number of principles for higher levels by taking such situations into account.
