i wish explanation would be given what is chess learning anyway, what does it entail, what does it mean, .. is it really hard because u need to memorize shit and positions? or is it, more conceptual, understanding movements of pieces, multiple and how they cover themselves and each other and then strategy-seeing opponent weakaness and your advantages.. what and how do you train effectively or is it impossible, u need a coach to push through 2k elo? ..pls Hikaru, help!

WTH, can someone explain @6:51 how he killed the black pawn like that? that move isn't legal or am I missing something here :S

Chess isn't that hard when Hikaru explains it. It's simply: takes, takes, takes, takes. Then Takes, pre-move, pre-move, pre-move. next game.

20:33 "and before he has to give money to HDMI"
lmaoo this caught be off guard

The book his stepfather wrote is Best Lessons of a Chess Coach

I learned a lot from this. Thanks for posting

I watched then played a brilliant move the next day

Sato is the most common sir name in Japan. 2 million people have Sato as a sir name; 300,000 people have Nakamura as a sir name.

hikaru…just by looking and listing to you i cant believe ur a gm i could beat you even i am not a gm or fm

I thought I was getting a shout out with Big White Center

29:00 In chess, you learn to make a million decisions, every game you’re making decisions. You’re always in the moment. In business for sure, you have to make hard decisions. I think from playing chess you get used to the decision making process.

Loved this as a beginner. Thanks! I would love to see another run where you play 1.D4

5:34 I was so triggered he didn't go Queen G5 and then I realized pawns can move

We are living in crazy times where GM teach chess for free

🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭 Hello from Switzerland ! Thanks for your videos !
We speak 4 languages here, plus the swiss-german dialects 😂

This was really great and educational. I hope you continue to do a series like this man. Not only entertaining, but helpful with your narration.

Why are the letters in the thumbnail not in the right order? ABCDEFHG?

Sat through the whole video and loved every second of it. Didn't even realize it was an hour long. Thanks Hikaru. Lots of great information. Hope to see more videos like this.

"unlike america were everyone speaks american" what???

So good to listen to him play. He sees EVERYTHING!

Did I miss something at 6:50 or is that supposed to happen?

Thought the Pawn was on F5, not F6…

    Or am I seeing things?

Watch from 6:45 and please explain to me what I missed lol.

what the song !! It makes me feel like the music is playing outside my headphones for some reason !!

Hikaru plays chess like most ppl breathe, just incredible how easy he makes a very difficult game look

baller baller baller baller junior double triple baller flame grilled taste with perfect baller I rule this day

Great Content! What was the book on chess strategy Hikaru recommended? I can't understand what he said. Thanks!

Dont u think there's a mistake in thumbnail

Do you think its possible for someone to reach GM without much knowledge on various types of chess openings?

Now that’s a good fellow, the only reason he wants more money is to give way to charity

The chessboard on the blackboard on the thumbnail goes ABCDEFHG

This is much better chess content than usual from Hikaru.

A couple things I would add is to show the cheese quickly after the game or maybe a few key moments.

Normally when a GM starts talking my eyes glaze over listening to all the variations mentioned without any explanations. This was great. He took time and explained as simple as a top five GM is able to think.

i got my first gold medal last week it was my first tournament also the scotch is my fav opening!
