In an earlier interview, former World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer said that women are terrible chess players, should be kept out of intellectual affairs and stay at home cleaning. In this interview from 1972, shortly before his World Championship against Boris Spassky, he seems to have changed his opinion somewhat.

Technically the world chess championship is unisex and then there's a separate women's only league. Most women don't play with men for a variety of different reasons but they could play if they wanted to.

Any distinction between men and women is always designed to favor women. This has always been the case. The reason there are women leagues in sports is to give women a fighting chance to win, that's all. Women exclude men, not the other way around. The reason people view it the other way and act as if men are sexist against women shows the extreme amount of misandry that's out there these days. It's gotten so bad that we don't even recognize it as such anymore.

Maybe he didn't see it, but i absolutely there are a lot of dumb insecure men who'll deny a woman a win just because she's a woman; certainly most at his time, for sure.
Claiming there's no sexism doesn't make it so. It is a staple of the male experience to lack a full grasp of sexism because they're almost never at the short end of the stick.
