In an earlier interview, former World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer said that women are terrible chess players, should be kept out of intellectual affairs and stay at home cleaning. In this interview from 1972, shortly before his World Championship against Boris Spassky, he seems to have changed his opinion somewhat.

Chess isn't a sexist game it's just that far less women in general poplous take chess seriously it's more a mentális game, like this millions people understand the rules how to play chess many if not in millions across the globe doesn't get further than that.
Understanding how to play and simply knowning how to move pieces are two different things entirely regardless of sex.

There is no contradiction. Women are statistically worse at chess, but there is no reason to discriminate against them and not to recognize the very few women that are excellent.
