The idea that Niemann is innocent is very disturbing to me. I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt. He wasn't trained in chess the normal way, but raised by chessbots in a sense. That could lead to a very weird playstyle, mixing genius out of the box moves with blunders as a human has limits to their depth.
A bit of luck, the opening variant being one of a few dozen he recently studied intensely, good also contribute to an exceptional game. Maybe he just was in the zone.
The biggest argument, would anyone WANT to cheat against Magnus? The odds of being caught aside, you could be seen as a music artist with one hit. A moment of greatness followed by mediocrity. And IF you cheat, wouldn't you just accept help only a few times, get a nice position early and time. Not by a zillion moves in a very tricky endgame.
So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, though I can totally picture him as a weirdo that loves eh … devices…

As a point of order…you said that defamation is making a statement with prior knowledge that it's false – this isn't true. The four pillars in US law are 1) False statement purporting to be fact, 2) Publication of that statement to a third person, 3) Fault amounting to at least negligence , 4) damages. That third one is relevant, because Magnus' statement was at least intended as self-interest, and the negligence would be the fact that he made the statement with only his own gut feeling to back it up (ie no proof). 2 and 4 are easy for Hans to satisfy, so the only thing he needs to prove ("on the balance of probabilities", rather than "beyond a reasonable doubt" – this is a civil court, not criminal, and the standard of proof is lower) is that the statement was likely false.
In a shocking turn of events his stares are a warning and a plea for help.
When he praised us for having good attention spans I thought "ahh yes, hes talking about me"…I then remembered that I started this video last night, fell asleep, and am only just watching the 2nd half now

As far as I can tell, you've been as neutral and even-handed about this as it's humanly possible to be. I don't know either, whether Niemann cheated or not, but in the absolute absence of any evidence, I think Carlsen handled the whole thing about as gracefully as an elephant on an escalator. Incidentally, good luck with your escape.

Beating Magnus in an endgame is such a behemoth task that I feel like your first reaction after overcoming it wouldn’t be bsing him on social media. When you cheat though, you would feel unstoppable and cocky, so I would expect that kind of behavior more.
Whatever the truth is, Hans Niemann will never be able to remove this stain from his name.
Well the interesting thing is will these two compete inthe same tournement again or will Magnuson leave if Han's is in the same one?

So Hans, who has publicly admitted to some cheating in the past, and who has been exposed as cheating in 50x more games than he had admitted, including tournaments with money on the line, and also can't explain why he makes key moves, and takes small amounts of time for critical moves, is claiming that it's Magnus who just can't handle losing a single match (despite Magnus losing other matches and never claiming his opponent cheated).
I'm all for gathering more evidence and having "proof"…but as far as I'm concerned, one story is much, much, much more plausible than the other.
