Good for you Levy. Lazavik is a kid, totally unfair to be accused without evidence.

He did not play as well otb what are u on about?

Its funny because niche videogame speedrunning communities with 30 players max are better at dealing with cheating scandals than these people smh

Oh no I don't normally lose to X. Oh cheating… stop being stupid, we are human no matter how good you are. You WILL, miss something or make a mistake. It happens we are not perfect.

I think it's an evolution and the gap from the top 100 to the top 10 is slowly closing

17:46 this is an important point Kramnik doesn’t get. People play in their respective social groups/circle/bubble, and these bubbles vary so much more nowadays with online chess. There’s no way for FIDE Elo to keep up with online ratings due to having a wider player bubble than at competition s.

Please make a video about trying a few cheating methods and see what works, what doesn’t.
    – Over the shoulder with a GM.
    – Stockfish/Torch on a separate screen.
    – Try a Morse code in the shoe(beads…)
    – Smart watch with Stockfish/Torch on it.
    – Try an overboard cheat without getting caught?

This should be obvious, but when like Kramnik you start thinking half the top players are cheating, that should be a wakeup call that your methodology is flawed.
Second, the chess world REALLY needs to understand psychology. The only difference between losing to a lower ranked opponent now and in the past, is that in the past you just accept you couldn't finish the job despite putting on pressure, but now because "cheating" is already heavily on your mind every time you lose you see suspicions everywhere. Can these upper grandmasters please stop being idiots. And stop positing vague stuff on twitter. In fact, there should be FIDE penalties if you start publicly accusing people of cheating without bringing out evidence, coupled with a private FIDE complaints forum where players can submit their individual concerns, with players with many mentions being privately investigated.

Hey Gotham I challenge you to a game of chess 😊

It began when chess content creators supported their friend's claims instead of evidence. That hasn't changed. For example, if you don't like Kramnik, you give a smarmy analysis of his claims. But if you like Magnus, then his ridiculous claims are taken seriously. Biased content creators are part of the problem as they are afraid to call out sore losers if they like them. The 2700 "Let's agree to draw in complex positions so my computer can tell me how to play next time" guys can't deal with the up-and-coming 2550 "I need to feed my family today" guys.

I see streamers playing with chat on. That to me is cheating. I know for a fact chat is on stockfish and they are typing moves. Even if they aren’t on stockfish they are still typing moves. That is cheating. In no over the board game is anyone at any point saying anything about moves.

I feel like the tools are just so good at this point that the gap is going to get much smaller for all of these younger players that use them. Is there cheating? Probably, but that can be said for most any competitive setting out there.

But the thing is, even if they send people to watch the grandmasters play, some people will still say something like, 'The grandmasters paid the people watching them to not tell anyone about them cheating'

EDIT: Thanks for all the likes guys I really wasn't expecting this

It's a social game of power dynamics and status. This isn't about the chess

Stockfish? Sorry never caught that one before. Does it taste good ?

Arent they (Top GMs accussing cheating) just paranoid that not well known invitated GMs or IMs or even masters actually plays well?

no, everyone is not cheating. Cheating is a problem. Reliable mechanisms need to be developed to discourage it. You can never completely eradicate it but you can raise the likelihood of getting caught in situations where it matters higher and make the consequences serious enough so that the amount of it is kept to a minimum and doesn't destroy trust. Now, everyone accusing everyone of cheating with flimsy evidence and paranoia isn't helping chess. It is doing the same thing as cheating itself.

Levy should cheat — that way, he would become a GM.

I think a very strong AI will probably be the solution. It's basically fighting fire with fire but it might work, and it seems that it's working for lower elo

It’s disheartening to me to get the number of emails that I do about my opponents violating fair play. I’m a 2150ish rapid nobody, and I get several games awarded back to me each week because similarly skilled players can’t help themselves. As a chess megafan, I obviously want clean play – I just don’t know how we get there.

bro u make millions of dollars of this shit just hire an editor ffs

Waiting for Kramnik to accuse Magnus of cheating.

An average guy on seeing posts of Kramnik about recent record of some top player games and suspicion of cheating be like: WHO ASKED

1.Kramnik is losing credibility with all those names he drops ,simply because nobody is closing those kids accounts . 2. Hans cheated online repeatedly ,just a couple years ago and not 4-6 years ago like Levy says. lying on behalf of his buddy now?

Angry old man syndrome. Kramnik doesnt understand that younger players grew up with computers and what that did to their chessbrains…

Levy never fail to add stockfish in his video photo

its really brave of gotham to chess

people has always openly cheated by agreeing to draws before games otb

You're starting to sound allot like a conspiracy theorist. Not sure what the big deal is….the comments shown don't refer to cheating explicitly. Everyone seems to be inferring a great deal. It's all very unappealing.

just wanted to let you know that you look like daniel radcliffe nice video btw

Well i am a cheater too
Otherwise how can you explain all those 100's of red brilliant moves by me

Levy never fails to stir the pot even more than necessary

Lmao when i clicked on this vid the add came in which the person was cheating using the app for mcqs😂😂

Cheating in chess is like boiling an egg, everybody does it from time to time

At least with the top players, there is a significant amount of financial reason for people to cheat. I never understood why amateur players playing online with no gambling, would want to bother.

I'd like to see the top players play more OTB outside their bubble of invitationals. It will either adjust the perspective of what's normal in terms of upsets or confirm the general consensus. Either way we'd be a little wiser.

Levy, what I witness in online play very often is someone plays very shabbily, even with early queen openings or blundering pieces, and when the opponent is losing, they suddenly become very brilliant and deflect your every move spending little to no time at all. While it's not just me who is noticing that, it's really hard to prove someone is cheating. You could make a video on that.

ahh chess is losing intrest as cheaters are more and more this is the dark age of chess

Gotham is not holding back and I love it

Doulingo looks creepy at the back T-T

Well, it is sad. If this continues, it could jeopardies on-line professional chess. On the other hand, in the age of tech, there has to be solid solutions, which would at least make everyone less paranoid. Cameras (many), softwares, some high end spy electronic devices, don't know, but there has to be a good solution.
