2024 WC opened with one draw and one quick win for Gukesh, over the next 10 games Ding grinded every game to a draw, winning the 2nd to last one. For the last classical game Ding opened with a novel idea but forgot to change the batteries so froze at 1hr 50min and didn't play a single move afterwards, surrending to Gukesh the WCC title.
