The media is really abusing him over a troll comment. The world really has lost any sense of decorum – this is about cheating in chess, not a funny joke. If he did cheat, this kid has really had to pay for it, and if he didnt he is a victim of bullying. I think maybe one comment on the joke in the interview was fair, but he returned to it too many times. Felt like his goal was to embarass him. I am piers fan but not sure how i feel as really borders bullying.

I don't believe for a second that Han Niemann only cheated twice online. If you use an engine in any rated game you deserve to have your career permanently ruined and should expect aspersions to be cast on every single one of your games forever more. Cheating in chess is for absolute dogshit losers. It brings me so much joy to see Hans' name dragged in the media like this, as it will surely deter future chess players from cheating. This distinction between online / over the board that Hans tried to paint is also flimsy af. Not buying it.

If the games that he cheated in didn’t have any stakes and he thinks that online chess doesn’t mean as much as over the board then why would he care about increasing his rating online? He’s clearly referring to his online games not in a competitive setting with money when he was 16. Clearly if he’s playing Alireza online that’s not meaningless, he’s talking about growing his rating when he was 16. We all wanted to have a good score when we were immature. This guy can play chess, Magnus should have swallowed his pride. I always think my opponent cheats when he effortlessly makes all the right moves, even though my position is garbage.

Notice at 8:17, his eyes flit up and to the right just as he is talking about how you cheat. Looks like a tell to me. It happens again at 8:26, and 8:34, then 8:37, again at 9:50, 9:55, 10:09, 13:11. All in relationship to cheating. Tell, tell, tell.
All bullshit aside any real journalist would be aware the history of the beads comment was a JOKE in chat, and Elon piled on by making another JOKE. And Hans would do well do laugh it off, because, you know, it was a joke.
