Prep is not your moves. Prep is the moves of better players than you. So if prep doesn't win or draw by force, the player making moves that are not his own will start playing 200-400 ELO below the strength of whatever they were copying. That's why Max Warmerdam (2625) played the endgame like a 2225. And Gukesh plays the endgame like a 2725. If you prep, you best not miss.

Ngl seeing the Gukesh win was kinda cathartic. It's really lame when you see a lower rated player and think, "Oh, how will they challenge the higher rated player?" And the answer ends up being a prep bomb where the higher rated player is fine with precise play. I mean, I know that's how a lot of chess works at high levels, but man
I actually prefer not having the eval bar. It puts me in the mind of the players more and feels more engaging.
