Magnus destroyed Nepo. Totally owned him. And by the way, I do not like Nepo.

    22. Nf5+ Kf6!!
It's like an invitation to play 3 check chess

That´s just mean, Nepo doesn´t deserve this… LOL!

Magnus is nepo’s kryptonite!!!! Love how he played such a weird opening and still crushed him

Did I find the move? Astonishing even myself, I did. Did I actually see why it was good on so many levels? Hell no. Also, it did take me more than the time these guys have to play the whole game. Magnus just looks above all the competition, it feels sad that we will never see anyone take the world champion crown from him. That would have been the best match yet, I am ready to bet.

this man is so confident he is better than Ian that he gave him odds at the beginning

Greatest Chess Players of All Time.
    Magnus Carlsen
    Young Magnus Carlsen
    Drunk Magnus Carlsen
    Late Magnus Carlsen
    Kid Magnus Carlsen

An incredible game by Magnus that the Hypermodern masters would have been proud of.

student : knight back to g8
teacher : you should quit chess
magnus : you should quit teaching chess

I wonder if the computer gives a clear advantage for white after those initial moves, or else it considers black can easily come back from that position

Time for Ian to may be give a break to Chess for sometime, relax and come back stronger with New techniques and peace of mind…. I know I'm nothing infront of these legends but its bit sad to see him like this….

that magnus opening was pure trolling. absolute disrespect.

I love how close captioning translates Ian's name at 0:05 as Yanni Punisher. Fight!

An giant anvil dropped on Nepo. Like in the cartoons.

Magnus knows that the sooner he leaves book theory, the quicker his superiority becomes apparent.

"and of course, Nepo isn't interested in that." Agad 2023 (which I think the best quotes so far, lol)

Magnus is like an a.i more he play more he is better

When it's Magnus , Every Damn thing is Possible

It is beautiful to look at Magnus play. But this move with the queen to b6 (it is really great to find it) is not so far away for many players. The first move to think of is c5 so one are able to play d4 when Se6 is played. The problem is that your queen will hang when Se6 is played and you will end up loosing material. Qb6 do the same as as c5 give you the opportunity yo play d4 and at the same time it moves your queen away from it dangerous place at d8.

Title should have been D4 is the new B4

0:50 How is it possible to return the knight? Not only in general theory it's a bad thing to do reversing your move, BUT it actually makes the black miss a move right from the start…

how the hell do you give 3 tempe and still come out as a threat? I like Magnus but i just dont understand his witchcraft

Ian: My ELO is over 3,000
Magnus's win ratio is better than 2:1

Wenn a laughing Magnus Carlsen is in the thumbnail you already know who the winter is.That is a bit disappointing

What is wrong with Ke7? I don't see how white will attack after that.

Just saw Alekehine named his pet cat "Chess" does that mean he loves pussy? Or that a cat's disposable disposition at any given moment, not to mention a housecat's homicidal fantasies regarding it's very owner, which incidentally animal experts are all in agreement on are also the very soul of the game of Chess, or both? …. lol 😂 ❤

he still is a former world chess championship challenger

    1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 b5 3. cxb5 d5 4. Nf3 c5 5. dxc5 Bg4

    6. Nc3 Bxf3 7. exf3 e6 8. Be3 Qa5 9. Be2 Nb8d7 10. c6 Nb6

    11. O-O Qb4 12. a3 Qh4 13. g3 Qh3 14. Na4 h5 15. Nxb6 Ng4

    16. fxg4 hxg4 17. Bh6 Rxh6 18. Re1 Qxh2+ 19. Kf1 Qh1# 0-1

Where the heck did Nepo even make a mistake?! And he still lost to that opening. I can't imagine being a former world #2 and just getting kicked in the teeth like this, white white, and having made no obvious mistakes to boot. I mean, what are ya gonna do?

I wonder what Hikaru's reaction was to the absolute disrespect Magnus laid down in this game

Tal put forwards the concept of leading the opponent into a deep dark forest. Carlsen comes along to show us that deep dark forest can be anywhere at any stage of development of the pieces, Then he advanced Tal's path leading out of the forest only being wide enough for one with his game engine ++ end game capability looming in the background.

Nepo: I will crush your Alekhine's Defense.
Magnus: No you won't. And I'm going to give you three free moves into the bargain.
Hikaru: Okay… time for me to retire from chess. I'll NEVER be able to flex like this.

This game vividly reminded me of the Drunken Master Kung Fu technique; you make your opponent think you’re out of balance while inviting him to get inside and then destroy him by using that imbalance as momentum against him!
