the issue, I'm having is that the complexity makes me feel incompetent, I know its a lot of strategy, learning, and planning, but it is VERY overwhelming to beginners

someone recommended that chess is a hobby that doesn't require accumulation of STUFF, like it's a good minimal hobby, I am here but I have zero interest in it, games just don't capture my attention, at this point I think I hate everything, absolutely everything, have I reached a point of deep nihilism… what other hobby is there in life, it's too cold to bird watch, can napping be a hobby?

i think the biggest shock to me here was telling me to play longer games whereas i had been trying to improve with shorter rapid games

EXCELLENT INTRO! Thank you Gotham! I shall avidly learn from you! I teach classical piano and art, but am always cogitating about problem solving, and I think chess will be a way to channel the OCD into light rather than darkness. I am excited! I just bought a great chess set, weighted pieces, tis a bit fancy, to my european tastes, and I cannot wait to set up shop in a coffee shop and wait for a victim! HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
