The 2023 U.S. Championship is a 12-player round-robin featuring some of the strongest players in the USA, who compete for $250,000 in prize money as well as the coveted title of U.S. Champion. If two or more players tie for first place a playoff will be held.
Players receive 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one. Draw offers are not allowed before move 30. Official website: uschesschamps.com

Good question, my mind says Islam because he's fighting in his territory and had a full camp to prepare for a very tough opponent in Charles.
BUT I also have a gut feeling Volk might do the impossible against all odds.

Perhaps the rarest of times that v see an advanced variation in sicilian . Props to Hans though Aronian tried to surprise Hans . Levon played a few suboptimal moves for his calibre but these small margins matter in these GM matches
Long time listener, first time caller, firstly i concur with all the quality people in the comments section with their vast knowledge, you are without equal in the chesstube community, so as an 🇦🇺, you just informed me about a rematch, (it’s early hours of the morning here) recently I rewatched the full volk vs Islam, I think on the original fight night I thought volk definitely won, after rewatching sober by myself & no commentary to lead (mislead) oneself, and I still believe volk won, but not by as much, but one judge 49-46 to Islam 😂, but at absolute worst result should be a split decision 2-1 to volk, thats not my opinion of the result, I’m just saying worst case, as most fans would know, no fight judge has been to a bar let alone a library since primary school, so never did they obtain vast knowledge to lose but whatever they did have 🤷🏻 is lost somewhere! And Islam will fight better especially with khabib in his corner, he won’t be confident after what volk managed against multiple times, surely I’m biased as can be🇦🇺
