The 2023 U.S. Championship is a 12-player round-robin featuring some of the strongest players in the USA, who compete for $250,000 in prize money as well as the coveted title of U.S. Champion. If two or more players tie for first place a playoff will be held.

Man I love watching Levon's games. Always fun and dynamic just like himself in real life. Completely agree with agad. He is one of my favorite players. Also props to Hans. He is playing a lot better now that the lawsuit has been settled. All that pressure was affecting his play.

My money is on Islam because I'm a Khabib guy but Volk is no pushover. I'm super excited.
I would have to say I honestly believe Volkanovski won the first fight. But it’s a tossup. I feel like he has an edge in the second matchup. Having lasted with him once already
Volkanovski is good, but not good enough. He can win a lot of fights in the Lightweight division, but I don't think he'll beat Makhachev.

I love the UFC and MMA. You would be great doing fan commentary on the net. Islam versus Volkanovski you have to give the nod to Islam. Russian fighters are undefeated. The USSR had the best chess players but no women and no fighters. Now their chess isn't that good but they have the most beautiful women and the best fighters.
Props to Hans but I really hope Levon gets back in form soon, MVL got back in form, Caruana got back in form, waiting for Levon and Ding to get back as well.

Islam should take it easy First fight was Volkonovski's to win because he's such an elite evolution of Fitch Serra in a LW package (Volk used to weigh more than those two at rugby despite the two being WW champs/contenders). Unless Volk pulls a Couture (something he didn't do in the first fight) Islam is coming in with a better gauge of his grappling and clinch distance which Islam couldn't expect in the first fight and tried the jab touching strategy utilized by most taller fighters against dangerous short stocky grapplers. Since Islam himself was a grappler with a great jab but no footwork he couldn't do what Miesha Tate did to Rin Nakai in their first fight which was the opening Volk had in the final minutes of the fight but Volk showed he was no Randy Couture. Skill wise, power wise and age wise I am sure he is far better than Randy at this day and age for his weight class but he's like a modern Chess player. Guy just wasn't built from the streets or in Randy's case in the military where he originally boxed despite being known as a Greco alternate. He should have finished Islam then and there and despite all the praise for his IQ he paced the 3rd and 4th when Couture would have pulled what he did in the 5th on those rounds because you want the taller fighter to gas out in the last round even if it risks getting KOes. This is Islam's fight to lose.

Islam vs Volk is the best match up the UFC can put on. It's Khabib vs Conor level. When you are so closely matched it's almost like Chess, Conor never recovered after that 😢
