Honestly, it seems like Kramnik's undergoing some mental health issue. It's sad, ignominious and I hope he gets the help he needs.
Kramnik suggesting "interesting" doesn't mean "suspect" is interesting. If you've seen anything of Kramnik online recently (e.g. C-Squared podcast with Fabiano: "The Kramnik Files : Unveiling the Dark Side of Online Chess") then, very reasonably, he's actively anti-cheat at the moment, and seems to suggests that given suspicious play a short ban or sanction would be a good thing as it wouldn't really affect the innocent too much compared to the greater good. It's a position, and that's all fine.
But if "interesting" doesn't mean that, does it mean it's just highlighting an excellent performance? Perhaps Kramnik is trying to start a Hikaru fan-club…

As a data scientist, this actually makes me uncomfortable to listen to. Like, the stuff Kramnik is saying is UNFATHOMABLY stupid. I can't even begin to describe it.
The odds of a 45 game win streak in a 1,000 game set are:
300 ELO gap (Higher rated player wins 85% of the time) 0.06%
500 ELO gap (94.7%): 9%
700 ELO gap (98.2%): 44%
And in fact, the odds are exactly the same for a set of 100, 1k, 10k, or even 100k games (although fun fact the odds of a 45 game streak drop to 0% in a 10 game set. Interesting…)! We could try and quantify the effects of nerves and tilt and stuff to tweak those numbers, but thats all subjective. This math isnt.
This sort of statistics/probability are actually pretty simple by maths standards, its not like this is a complex proof that the average person couldn't be expected to know/understand. This is stuff that any adult who stayed in school past about age 15 should know. Even if he is from a 3rd world country thats no excuse to be this ignorant. He has had hundreds of people try to explain it to him. Hes just simply not understanding.
It should be really intuitive to him too, how often does HE win against players 500 points lower than him? Probably that same fucking 94.7% of the time that Hikaru does or I do or ANY CHESS PLAYER WITH AN ELO ABOVE 600!
And he does seem to just be not understanding, thats why its so uncomfortable. If he was lying Id just find it shitty. Every time he posts something like "those calculators are broken because the numbers are incorrect" im just like "dude please you look like a moron stop it" 😆
