Regardless of whether Kramnik is right or not, the whole chess site makes a very dubious impression. I don't like Kramnik at all, but he's not the one who destroys chess.
Look, chess is a game that takes mental abilities. If you take two people with equal training, the one with the higher IQ will likely beat the other person. As a proof of that, consider how chess players tend to have a higher IQ than average. No, chess did not increase their IQ. What happened is people stick around when they are good at something. Since chess takes intelligence, when you don't have that much IQ, you stop playing. Hence, the average IQ of a chess player is higher than the average of the general population. IQ may not be the only aspect as certain mental skills unrelated to IQ might influence a chess player's skill too (e.g. having fantastic memory helps no matter your IQ.). The reason Hikaru dances around this issue and even faked his own performance on an IQ test once on stream is it makes him more likable and relatable aka nice and cozy community filled with people who will donate. Inclusiveness. Don't have high IQ? Swing by and make sure to sub on your way out.
Intelligence and other mental skills will hard define the peak someone can have in chess. Obviously, there is a bunch of gains to be had by studying and playing, but that should go without saying. The game still takes mental abilities to play well.
Who is Kramnik? I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but the amount of ppl worried about what Levy is doing dwarfs BY FAR the amount of ppl worried about what Kramnik is doing. I dislike Levy, very strongly…and I know what's going on with him…. I don't dislike Kramnik, but I could care less about anything he says/does…He seems like he's having a hard time adjusting to the current era of chess…The only point that I would agree is that there are a lot of ppl cheating in chess nowadays … but you can't recklessly point your finger at everyone… I think that Danny should do his best to discourage/punish cheating…FIDE as well
Hikaru, you are a cool man. Kramnik is cool as well. Kramnik is not right in 100% of his statements, but he is 100% right that there is cheating in chess. I feel that idea of Kramnik to fight against cheaters is good.
I am sure that both of you want the best for chess.
Just help Kramnik to fight against cheating. That would be the best thing you can do.
Just support him rather than fight against him. Only you can do this, man. That would be cool.
