I doubt most Spanish people could pronounce Mendataurigoitia. Im a native Spanish speaker (not from Spain) and I had to repeat it a few times before getting it right once and never again π
I dont really get how the gm norm works. Did Levy have to go undefeated this tournament or something?
He was playing at a 2700 rating for most of the tournament and itβs not enough for a GM rating?

Really great tournament – it's a bummer he came so close to the norm and didn't get it, but this is an awesome fist step back to the GM journey.

I know people are a bit sad that he missed a norm but before this tournament nobody was talking about a norm. The fact that it's become part of the conversation and indeed people are disappointed that he missed it shows just how much progress he's made at this event.

How many does he have already?
Him getting to 2500 imo is harder then GM Norms
When a player becomes a grandmaster do grandmaster norm level performances still get counted? What I mean is are there records of who has scored the most grandmaster norms in history, a bit like snooker 147 breaks, or are GM norms so commonplace for good grandmasters that they get them in most tournaments so they aren't recorded as an achievement at all. It would be interesting to know how many GM norm performances Magnus has versus other players for example.

After this performance by Levy, I am confident that he will achieve GM over the next few years. So long as that remains his goal. This performance puts him on that level and proves he is capable of doing it. Now it's just a matter of attending tournaments more often and improving his rating.

Levy is an excellent player, he just needs to gain more confidence, and he'll surely become a GM.
