The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.
Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

The photo of the opening move was the best I have seen!
Are you using chess pro from the Unity asset store?
what a waste of a game…..and to look for a draw at the beginning with White is a crime
Why does no one ever go for the Italian Game? All the good stuff happens in the Italian Game, including Agadmator's favorite opening.
"They are happy doing it". Have you seen Ding's face? lol
I would have continued playing
Seen more interesting games in a Class C tournament. The game of the match to forget.
It really looks like the draw mechanic is so easily abused
I keep saying this over and over- Hikaru would've definitely given us more action than ding if he hadn't lost his chances to ding in that annoying blunder he made in their last game… that move should still haunt him, especially when he's somewhere watching what these guys are playing
Finger crossed for Ding in the last 3 matches
How is it possible that Ding's prep matches were not played on accounts set to private so the games could not be searchable in the database?!
The critics of your channel are lame!
I feel like this match is a no win win for either. You aren't the world champion since you didnt dethrone Carlsen. Basically whoever loses technically wins in a way.
This game was played like a Noob. No way it felt like a World chess championship match. Total waste of time who watched it live
It's the captures, captures, captures of Agads dreams! 😛
The "leaked" games were only found after the games had been played. Was there more?
7:46 the board looks like a nuclear winter!
man are Ding and Technology eternal enemies, Ding is the single most chess player I can remember losing online games because of dc, and now preparation is out because of their online "secret" matches.
what a boring game
LiChess should make a “private” mode that prevents games from being tracked or recorded
I think it's time for Ding to take risk.🙂
Yea this was a snooze fest. Ding just putting his effort into white next game.
If you look at it from a different perspective, a different sport like Formula One, if a teams preparations are leaked and another team obtains that information and uses it they would be involved in a court case possibly thrown out of the sport for good.
How does a leak in the world chess championship occur? Is it some rogue who wants to see the world burn? I doubt it. And if its not that it must be someone on the opposition orchestrating it, and they certainly would not orchestrate it without the approval of Ian.
If you think about the purity of chess, forget prizes etc, a real champion would see that there is a leak and then they would forbid anyone to use it for tarnishing the game, a real champion would not want any help they would want the championship to be theirs on merit not just an ill gotten gain.
Prizes and political factors put pressure on people to cheat, if there was an actual leak of the prep and Ian used it then Ian should be disqualified from the WCC and a thorough investigation should be made but we know nothing will happen because the world of chess has been found in recent months to be ill prepared to deal with cheating.
Ceremonial Moves are one of the perks of sponsorship! No sponsorships, the WCC is two guys playing in a Starbucks or at the Y. Join the Real World!
I don`t get Ding‘s opening choice. He should know by now that he can‘t beat Nepo with Black in Spanish! When does Ding hope he can even out? In game 14???
Thank you agad!
He does not like Nepo and keeps telling this!!!
