The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

They said that the new pitch clock would speed up games and sure enough this one went very quickly.

This is a boring WCC. Magnus would win spectacularly, I would lose spectacularly, either would be better than this.

What's up Agadmator? Is Nepo going to the Boring!? Is he going to be quick to draw Games instead of trying to get a winning position against Ding? A Bobby Fisher nor an Aleckine nor a Tal Nepo is not. 4 Draws in a Row!? Come on now. Before that They had some good Games because They were trying to win and not draw the games. Have a good one, ☮️ out. Freeman from the States The United States that is.

Why do I feel that this very short draw game 11 is a “calm before the storm” in game 12?

As sad as it would be if Ding lost because of the leak, it's frankly shocking that the preparation was left so easy found. You can't blame Nepo at all for taking advantage.

Thank you, Agadmator for the excellent videos.

5:37 The retreat 17.Ne3 is not actually required here. After 17..dxc4, if black captures the knight, he is completely lost after 18.cxb5. White would gain deadly connected passed pawns on the queenside for the knight.

If Nepo wins, strip him and strip anyone else who cheats. This is cheating. This is not fair play, nor just, let alone morally acceptable.

Cheating is huge in chess, and spying on your opponent's preparation should be punished.

In American football, teams have been caught spying on opponent's preparation and they were rightfully punished, severely.

That game was an unannounced and unofficial day off.

bobby joe young #2 because stephenG blocked me says:

Play same lines get same damn results shits pathetic and this why modern players be overrated no actual thinking skills just a bunch of greedy bums who play for money rather than testing their actual thinking skills shits boring

Like Michael Buffer registered "Let's get ready to rumble", Agadmator should register "Captures-captures", "Captures-captures-captures" and "Captures-captures-captures-captures". :)))

Which one of them will regret this wanted draw, we'll know soon.

Hi Agadamator – could you please consider presenting (with commentary) all the decisive games in the 1927 World Chess Championship Match between Capa and Alekhine, or share a link to those games if possible? Thanks

Wow, a boring draw in a World Championship game. What a waste… I really hope Ding bounces back.. It is a weird thought, Nepo as world champion after he got crushed by the real number 1 last time…..

Around 20 moves of theory and preparation. And later on super careful play. Basically stockfish 15 drew against itself. lol.

I think one is scared and the other is glad.

relax while watching historical chess matches on my channel. ☝️

It's funny that one of the contenders is shaking every other game and doesn't know the tournament rules. I think that is shitshow

15 captures, nice. Thank you for the video!

The length of the video is a spoiler on its own 😂 Too short… must be a draw

World engine line memory championship 2023

    5:38 Interesting version (instead of Ne3): dc:?! ed:, cb:! Kh8 (rather: Ra7), Bd5: Rb8, b4 Nb7, ba: (1:0)

You have the wrong PGN in the video description (2nd game in row now).

I remember I had that position and I even don't play chess 🙂 So for pro players not to ever have that position is a bit unbelievable

Ding should resign the whole game. It is unmatchable.

Did you notice the body language of Ian and Ding? Ian is relaxed and laughing, Ding is all tensed up. That puts Ding at a disadvantage.

so many "captures captures", agadmator couldn't be happier 😀

Ding looks so stressed! Reminds me of Spassky

You should go over Eric Rosens 2nd game in title Tuesday in his most recent video vs GM Rustamov. Game starts at 9 minutes, and Rosen sacs a ton of pieces for a crazy mating attack. He called it his best game of the year #suggestion

If Ding's prep really leaked he's in big trouble, unfortunately. I hope he has another ace up his sleeve with white next game.

Thanks to MC for making this possible, I salute you Magnus

I feel so bad for Ding, really wish that leak didn’t happen.

7:03 "After takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes takes Ra2 it'll basically be a draw" -Hiankaru Nakapomniachtchi

Thanks AGA! Making a 4 hours video in 10 minutes!
