00:00 Hello Everyone!

The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

Ding froze like a deer in the headlights as we say in the U.K. Absolutely collapsed most likely time pressure? However Black had a really solid position but it’s concerning how Ding imploded by playing the dodgy Rd2 could have played Be5 instead and his position would be fine. It’s harsh on Ding but if he wants to be champion he simply cannot continue to make big errors like that!!

Ding is pushing the game and has the imagination to turn it around.

I Hope you get well soon agad. Thank you for covering this championship

This has been the most topsy-turvy WCC in my living memory

Sorry for your voice, great review. The format length is just perfect!

this is the first time i see classic chess out of time..

When you redo this game, please include the line about horsing around.

Ding is reminding me of Ivanchuk right now. At his best he can beat anybody but he's inconsistent.

    Damn , I missed the “sorry about that(volume down.. ) “

Someone should send Ding a time management video course for his birthday.

Both of these players are fundekentally flawed.

Not surprised Magnus didn't want to defend his title.

Caruana is easily the most balanced of the challengers.

This time around, the WCC won't be won, it will be lost by the player who caves under the pressure. Thus far, it looks like Ding will lose the match.

Sounds like my friend who had Covid so I advise getting more rest.

Agad's neighbor: My daughter brought home this origami flower they learnt in class today, isn't it cute? What did yours bring?
Agad: …. (can't speak because voice is gone)
Get well soon, Agad, waiting for the in-depth video <3

They are incredible but seeing them playing shows that if Magnus gets serious again wont lose in a 1000 years

Hot take – world chess championship matches should have a time limit of half an hour… Per move. And there should be no other restrictions. Like… Ding lost bc of time. In a classical chess championship? Cmon. It ain't blitz.

Ding is just an Agad follower who took too literally "while I give you a couple of seconds to spot the winning move" ! 😂

With h5-h4 Wasn’t DL forgetting a bit he was playing with a quality down?

Nepo: “finally, my fast moving in classical chess is paying off”

In first, i were rooting for ian. i Love ian but As far as I understood, Ding was slightly better than Nepo until this point. i mean Game 7. but he just had very bad luck. poor ding could have won this game if his brain didnt collapse in that shocking moment.

You were also screaming at Ding to make a move? Understandable.

Magnus would have crashed both blindfolded.

feel like we gotta little spoiled by games 5 and 6

this is essentially hybrid warfare of chess. Nepo used all the resources available to him. I am rooting for Nepo, but this is still a tragedy, no matter how you look at it.

this just make the WCC silly… too many errors… Just reinforces MC is e GOAT

Antonio – Thanks for the brave effort to produce another excellent video despite a sore throat. I am paying the consequences of watching this game live, as it ended at 3 am local time. Worth it for the drama.

This seem too many losses for any future world champion.

I fell asleep watching the game on my phone last night and I woke up to the commentators screaming for Ding to move! Pretty wild way to start the day. That post match interview was actually hilarious, some of the questions were so so stupid, and the main lady was trying to be sassy to Ding it was painful to watch.

For anyone upset about Magnus stepping down, this game pretty much seals the deal for me that is for the better.

`Get well! Thanks for the recap and analysis. Thumbs up!

Do more videos like this. Less alternate lines. Just explain why they played what they did.

Although I enjoy your analysis, I find that you spend more time talking about moves that weren't played (moves that could have been played, but weren't), than the actual moves of the match. Perhaps this is interesting for more accomplished players, for a beginner like myself, I find this often distracting and excessive. I would rather focus on what actually happened vs. what might have happened at every move.

Carlsen really screwed things up–Nether player is world championship caliber. SORRY!

Part of becoming world champion is clock management.. ding has constantly been behind on the clock

What a pity for Ding! He reminded me of Ivanchuk with his time troubles.

Dear Agad…you don't have to apologise for the short video…we appreciated the effort and the dedication to provide the video as you are fully aware that we are expecting it and you didn't wanna let us down.

Seeing Ding and Nepo go back and forth just shows how great magnus is considering Nepo couldn't win a single game against magnus in the 2021 championship. It's like the second best player is light years away from being as good as world number one.
