The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

Qh4 is why chess players are also good at poker. What a bluff, tricked Ding into gaslighting himself. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

I play a lot of these opening but a lot of beauty.all the pieces is wonderful and the pawn power in chess is show up the f3 pawn .thank you agamator.Tirso expert master

Thanks Agad, hope the voice is better soon! Hot water, lemon and honey

me knowing 2000 rating is nothing much high calibar hurts badly :3

Ding deserved to win. He creates magic on the board. Hope this will continue

Just dont see how Ding ever becomes world champion without greatly improving his time situations, good on Nepo surviving this one, that was world class defending, especially that jedi mind trick move lol

Worry not for ManDingo plays black next game!

Is it me, or is the chess becoming otherworldly? Like leaps and bounds ahead of itself, from just last year. I used to be able to follow along, but this year, I think my head's going to explode. I still love it, though.

No we do not just want the moves. The reason your channel got so great is for your commentary and analysis which add great value to your content. I would suggest you do not just give the moves in the end, just provide them in a description. If anyone wants the moves, they can just find them, no reason to just announce them at the end of the video. Not because it will be 1 minute longer, but because it seems a bit weird and serves no purpose. Keep it up man.

That really was an incredible game. I feel bad for Ding for doubting himself and trusting Nepo like that. To be the world champion I think you have to believe that you are the best player in the world, and you have to know that you're opponents will mess up and you have to be ready to take advantage. This is one area that Fisher really excelled in.

Why would people agree on a draw, like can't they go lile that forever? What if 2 trolls just keep on agreeing on a draw for each match is there a rule to keep them from that. I think one of them should win with that amount of pieces

Thank you for the video. In my opinion you can get rid of that short summaries. They don't bring anything valuable and come on – if someone is interested with moves only, he can google and find it everywhere. Your power is analyse of game and I suggest to stick with it.

Such a mind bending game! I love all the sidelines.

This game is WILD. These unusual lines are so exciting.

Deng's problem happened early in the game, when GM Nap castled early.

These snarky short versions are Fire my guy!! Lol 😅

"Feel free to pause the video and win the game for Ding while I give you a couple of seconds."

Sure… Ding couldn't find the winning move in 10 minutes, so I'll just find it right now for him in a couple of seconds.

I love how he listened to his viewers as just the moves, but kept the normal format for everyone else.

QxF6 is that a Rasheed move or one of Tals..??

I would have hung myself if I was Ding.. can't cope with the regret

I never thought I would see such a blunder fest at the top level. No wonder Magnus doesn't want to play against these clowns.

“Now we’re playing serious chess” I love it 😂

I feel sorry for you daughter because apparently you're only going to teach her that things are either black or white… but in fact there is a huge gap in between. Learn from your mistakes and understand the difference between rambling incoherence to the point where even YOU looking at the computer gets lost and just going fast-forwarding the moves to laugh about people trying to get a more concise understanding of the game. It is true that there are a lot of possible lines but not just the one you show. there are MILLIONS and that's exactly why you are being called for. You choose what YOU poorly think is correct or WOULD happen. Probably for the sake of your child you'll learn that is not only one way or the no way. You'll spare her some troubles… her and her mother as well.

wow what a game. So tomorrow will be a rest day?

Why does your shirt say Qxf6? What's the idea here??

One commentator on the livestream (I forget — Anish?) was very insistent that White's best strategy was to march the king up the A & B to gobble up those undefended Black pawns. With the Black queen and rook tied down to preventing White's passed pawn from queening, those two Black pawns were defenseless. White could even give up its passed pawn to march the pawns at A & C to the eighth rank. What do you folks think of that advice?

Ding need to work more before winning the championship

If Nepo wins championship will have been through chess skills or poker skills? 16:50 This isn't the first bluff move that has gotten inside Ding's head and cost him lol

I like to see Ding playing like Ding though, very cunning and forcing with clever moves. As though he does not measure the positions by giving points to the pieces. Just moving them with the purpose of having a dominating position.

@18:59. What is wrong with the White bishop on G2 going to C6 to protect the passed pawn? This frees up the White queen from the responsibility of protecting the passed pawn, reassigning the duty to a lesser piece. Nobody on the livestream mentioned this possibility, and I'm curious what's wrong with it. The White queen is then free to inflict damage elsewhere.

Ding second is not good for him. He could have choose Levon or anyone else. Rapport is not good for him. Ding is a beast he isn't looking good here now.

We won, but at what cost?
Decisive games are interesting and all but mistakes, blunders and misses everywhere in this championship. The level of chess isn't same anymore

The game was "spannend" (Dutch for combination of tense, fateful, and entertaining). I do not know how to translate this in English.

Ding achieve such amazing positions but his clock is taking the hit

0:54 Agadmator casually roasting World Chess Championship sponsor with the same laid-back voice he describes the game in 😆

You offer really good insight into chess, but your incessant "what if" moves make these videos almost unwatchable. Please, just show us what the actual moves are, and comment on those; not show so many possible moves. It's just brutal. Thanks.

Honestly never even knew the world championship was going on. Whoever wins can't even call themselves the champion, really. But what you gonna do? You can't FORCE the champion to defend the title. So you get this… a second-place playoff disguised as the world title.

In the last 2 games Ding has been taking the initiative even though he blundered or did not manage his clock well. If he does not lose his confidence and keep playing and calculating well, he has a chance to comeback.

The effect of magnus not defending came as shock to Ding and explains his melting😮

"Looks like a Bond villain . . ." 04/20/2023 Wins the Internet (and goes into protective custody, simultaneously)!

I am by no means a chess expert whatsoever… but if you pause at 16:34, after Ding puts Nepo in check with Qxe5+, Nepo then goes Kh7. From here, I’m very confused about Ding’s next move (Qh2+).

Instead of Qh2+, why would you not do Qxh8??? Nepo would have to do Rxh8 to take Ding’s queen, then Ding could promote the pawn on D8, Nepo would have to capture the promoted pawn, then Ding could go RxD8 and now he would have a rook and a bishop verses Nepo’s knight. Sure, Ding would have one less pawn, but isn’t this still a distinct advantage?

    What am I missing here??
