To be fair, a normal rook also looks like a decapitated horse.
tyler the creator is gay and he created dick chocolate box gay chess
A lot of these clearly have solely decorative purposes, so I agree with Hikaru, the first was the ugliest. Like you don't buy a Dragon Set or a plant set to play blitz, you buy them to have a nice looking garden/living room, and maybe play for fun once or twice with no clock or anything. But the first set? Doesn't have ANY purpose, it's not better looking, is not more functional, is not cheaper.

18k and not even a second queen?
I had a marble chess set, which i liked alot.
NGL, I like my $25 Amerous board, but yeah the pieces are trash. I upgraded to the Staunton 3.75" pieces, and I couldn't be happier with a budget board. π
Not the japanese thumbnail β οΈβ οΈ
I have a couple of fancy sets from India. Hand carved, ebony (black pieces) and boxwood (white pieces). With coupon discounts they were like around the $100 mark. They are 4" (3.9" actually) sets and are beautiful. They might be slightly more expensive now but I bet you they wont break $150. I dont see the point of spending any more than that…
They didn't think during the design process that the pawns looked like tiny cocks? Or they just didn't care?
I think the set is made with plants is actually cool, because is not a chess set, but a garden that look like a chess set I think is pretty cool.
I like Hikaru 20% more today! *
Because he is saying "no" to overpriced goods, even though he has the money at hand!
This sets a good example for the youth that may complain about capitalism, while holding a $1200 phone, or $6 coffee.
Buyers just need to learn to say "no", and make their own coffee for $0.36, or get a cheaper phone…or do without!
Just say no to overpriced goods!
Then you'd only have to worry about insane government spending!
*Up from 55% liking him to 66% liking him
I liked the decapitated knight set.
Good job for pushing agenda on someone and not talking about all the false information you used good job you goober
What is this thumbnail manππ, and why hub musicπ
Yeah im never watching hikaru's intro infront of my family with full volume and the editor is wildimππππ
I mean it's Tyler
That plants one. I've always wanted a chess set that attracted insects.
1:05 Those look like a full sets of factory rejects…..
Hikaru do you mind not reading each word out? We can read for ourselves!
I thought the ball shaped bottom pieces were bad, this guys just took it to another level π
Dont gamble please Hikaru
'Naughty Hikaru" ππ

Hi Hikaru ! Can you make a video of the chess sets that you have ? Thanks a lot
Yo what was that intro π
0:05 "Spoon?"
Go duck yourself LV 18.000$ chess set and i dont have 1000$ in my account after working a whole year
the pieces auto blunder
if there's sexual innuendo, it gets people's attention. how low brow.
Those pawns need some viagra.
I really don't like the glass set , its harder to differentiate the pieces
Shut up hikaru
I hate the "dragon" chess set. Invite demons into your abode and see how that works for you. Truly frightening.
I disagree with the plant set, it adds another element to chess π if your pieces dry out you auto lose that piece!
Nah bro imagine playing classical chess on a chick fil a chess boardππππππππππππ
Chess pieces made to play chess and then "back attack" mice
A chess GM is going to have a very rigid notion of what chess pieces have to look like, because anything out of the ordinary might jangle that crucial "see the board" thing. But… that also makes Hikaru not the best judge of some of these chess sets. And it's pretty sad that people can get so puerile about what's basically just a semi-melted version of a traditional chess piece.
Seeing this as im designing a 3D printed chess set… interesting.
What a horrible day to have eyes
Why the heck did nemo comment that it was coolππ ig her opinion cause that shi looks nasty
Hikaru should do a tour of his personal chess sets. Bet he has some memorable ones.
hikaru why scare me like this…
I'm always extremely happy when we get Hikaru talking about chess sets
I love the first one ππππ the cost is insane, but I love how it looks. no way he likes the glass one more
I've had 2 Simpson's sets over the years. I think the idea is great because I love the Simpson's. But they are the worst. They're all awkwardly shaped and top heavy. Luckily they were gifts.
what the GM Hikaru actually do ?
The most interesting high-end set I've seen is a rather standard Staunton designed set, but made from mammoth tusk ivory. Ivory of course is illegal to sell, but not prehistoric mammoth ivory dug up from the frozen tundra.
#1 is an INSULT!
#2 Glass chess pieces BREAK! The King goes first. The felt base falls off, yielding the SCREECH!!!
#3 Checkers are not a problem….
#4 ….
#5 $$$$ ($140,000)
#6 ROMAN EMPIRE (and it's demise…)
#7 WORDS!!
#8 PLANTS!!
#9 THERE ARE better dragon chess sets though…
#10 Cartoons… I have never seen these cartoon characters….
IMHO
18,000 dollars for an ugly unusable Chess set that would be make an awful center-piece
