I am not a fan of the format.
A real cool format (in my opinion at least) would be for each of them to take turns moving WITHOUT the other seeing the board.
So players 1 and 3 are playing White, 2 and 4 are playing black.
Player 1 sees the board and makes a move for White, board goes blank for player 1.
Player 2 sees the board and makes a move for Black, board goes blank for player 2.
Player 3 sees the board and makes a move for White, board goes blank for player 3.
Player 4 sees the board and makes a move for Black, board goes blank for player 4.
This would test the players preparation with each other to know if I am approaching queens side don't start going King's side. That sort of thing
It would also test the players ability to see a board setup and play as opposed to being able to watch t he board while their opponent takes time to make a move.
Maybe it would not work but I would like it to be tried.

This may have been the most entertaining chess match to watch ever. Mostly because of Danya's enteral time pressure panic. So much tension, so many near time-outs, so many urgent exchanges. It seriously felt like watching a sports game.

This is the greatest chess battle that Levy has ever participated in. He will be telling his grandkids about. He will wake up at night thinking of this game for the rest of his life. For Hikaru? It was Tuesday.
In the first game, one duo had at one point 4.3 seconds, but in the end they had more than 7 mins
2nd game was fantastic. There was another analysis that was pointed out by the comp. When their queen and rook was on their 2nd rank, the queen was overloaded. Nc8!!

@10:00 Isn't another plan to draw just to run with the black king to a8 and stay there? White can even force the black bishop to sacrifice itself for the h pawn and win the pawn on a6 and it is still a draw because the white bishop has the wrong color.
