Andrey Filatov congratulated Ekaterina Lagno on winning the tournament in Astana
The President of the Russian Chess Federation noted the excellent performance of Ekaterina Lagno at the first stage of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix, which ended in Astana. The grandmaster scored 8 points out of 11 possible and became the winner of the tournament.
“Congratulations to Ekaterina Lagno with a confident victory in such a strong tournament. After a long break in playing practice, our chess player went the entire distance without defeat, once again proving her high class and athletic character. Congratulations to the silver medalist of the Grand Prix stage, Alexandra Goryachkina, who was in the lead for most of the tournament and pleased us with her victories. Alexandra Kosteniuk, despite a not so confident start, fully demonstrated her fighting qualities. For Polina Shuvalova, this is the first experience in the Grand Prix series, and I am sure that she will draw the necessary conclusions and return with renewed vigor, I wish our girls good luck in further competitions,” – Filatov said.
