Filatov reacted to the disqualification of Karjakin

Andrey Filatov, President of the Russian Chess Federation (RSF), commented on the news that the Norwegian Chess Federation (NSF) has suspended Sergey Karjakin and other players supporting the special operation in Ukraine from rating tournaments on its territory and called on organizers in other countries to follow its example.

The Norwegian Chess Federation’s call to remove our athletes, including Sergey Karjakin, from participation in international competitions looks very aggressive and contradicts both sports principles and democracy. We strongly oppose such statements. We hope that the International Chess Federation and other organizers will adhere to the slogan Gens Una Sumus (“We are one family”) and the principle “Sport is out of politics”.
