Carlsen-Niemann: the conflict continues

On the second game day of the Julius Baer Generation Cup, world champion Magnus Carlsen resigned on his second move against Hans Niemann.

The American grandmaster, who played with white, went d4. Carlsen answered Nf6 and after Niemann’s answer he resigned. According to the rules of the tournament, it was technically impossible to give up on the first move.

“We are witnessing a tacit statement,” said Grandmaster Peter Leko, the official broadcast commentator.

Recall that the conflict began at the tournament in St. Louis, where Carlsen withdrew from the tournament after losing to Niemann. So far, no official statements or accusations have been received from Magnus.
