When I was in Hong Kong all I smelled was stinky mouths on the train 😂

That “Don’t stand up when it’s your turn” isn’t really something. There is nothing wrong about doing that. It’s illegal to distract your opponent but merely standing up to get a different perspective on the board is completely fine.

Some times, if you are like me, and a gas leak develops in your colostomy bag during the middle of a game, the odor issue can't really be avoided unless I were to resign the game and leave.

You missed the "Speaking of pushing that start button of the timer, how about you HIT THAT LIKE BUTTON!"

Nine times of ten or so… the first illegal move will be more time for your opponent, not less time for you.

Ten things but they all very easy to get if just get the one thing of acting with good common sense.

1 thing never to do in a tournament: look too long into the eyes of an opponent who is way, way too pretty. 💖

A couple things about touch move that wasn't mention. If you make an illegal move, but there is a legal move with that piece, you have to move it. Say you queen is pinned to your king by a rook and you missed it thinking you could take a free piece. Instead of blocking the pin with another pieces you are now forced to take the rook with your queen because you touched the queen! Another rule about touch move is when you let go of the piece and it is not on it starting square, that is the end of your turn. There is no going oh no! and moving it to a different square. So a uncommon thing that may happen is you pick up your piece and accidently drop it. Technically if it rolls onto a legal square that is where is it placed. I don't think many people enforce this as it is an honest mistake and some people may not have good hand strength.

I only play chess so that ine day i can play against you.

if you go to an over-the-board tournament, won't the rating difference between you and your opponent tend to be quite large?

I take it painting your face like an evil devil would be frowned upon…

Might be worth mentioning phones – if you leave yours on during the game you risk being defaulted, even if it doesn't ring.

The itch to castle with both hands in a tournament is still very strong

Some whole other video this time, but beautiful as always ❤

That would have been funny to see. "No, I'm not going. You go on ahead without me. Good luck!"

Anna, you might want to add that, when castling, always move the king first. If you touch the rook first then you cannot castle, you can only make a move with the rook you touched. So when you want to castle, always move the king first, and then the rook. Am I wrong?

Hmm, I agrea in a lot, but if you have to go to the toilet no matter whos turn it is just go to the toilet, you don`t wanna be known as the player who peed himself…and people may have

diseases that make them have to go right away, if you feel like visiting the mens/wimmens room just go, no shame in that

    11. Put the pieces back to the original position after you finished the game

What happens if they make an illegal move? Call the arbitrator? Stop the clock? What happens with the piece they had originally touched to move? Or do they just get a time penalty, and re-think the position to make a legal move?

Vilken bra video! Jag spelar online schack och vill prov att spela över brädet. Inte lika läskigt helt plötsligt, tack Anna!

I laughed my head off when she said about the dirty stinking players that don't wash. lol

Thank you Anna for all these good tips. Just suffered two back to back losses. Very frustrating, but that’s Chess.

I would say around distraction, don’t bang the pieces or the clock, and don’t play with captured pieces.
I never thought of the tip around leaving the board when it’s my turn, presumably if I make a make, and my opponent blitzes a response, I’m ok to continue standing up and doing what I need to do.
As etiquette, if an opponent forgets to press the clock, I know one should not remind them. However, I would not take excessive time over my next move in their time, and would make sure I still press the clock in spite of their clock being the one ticking.
For the touch-move, I understand that only of a piece is touched with the intention of moving does this apply (be it one of your own, or one of your opponent’s to capture). Touching a piece by accident, or saying ‘j’adoube’ or ‘adjust’ prior to touching the piece mitigates this.
Finally, I have a question around illegal moves. If my opponent were to make an illegal move, could I accept the move and play on? There must be games at a very novice level where an illegal move is made, but neither player notices for a while.
Making a note of the moves is good for this, in case we must go back to the illegal move, and replay. Also good for three-fold repetition if not successive of 50-move-rule draw claims.

I'm going to my local chess club for the first time tonight! This couldn't have come at a better time! 😂

Do not keep checking your phone during the game.

I'm curious about that rule to hit the clock with the same hand you moved the piece. Is this what people always do when you play an amateur at the park for example? If someone doesn't do that and is trying to flag you, do they get called out for it? Or do both people usually switch it up and not follow that rule so that they get an advantage in time trouble?

This video couldn't come at a better time. I am about to play in my first OTB tournament and now I'll make a special effort to take a shower. Seriously though – good stuff. I didn't know how things worked with the chess clock, etc.

"Do not say check !" Beth Harmon learnt it after sleeping with Benny ! 😂

I thought you were going to say rule #1 – don't take your 2 year old to a chess tournament unless you have too!!!

Did you ever have someone you played against throw all their pieces down? 🙂

How about a video on how you create these great video productions? I would love a behind-the-scenes look at the kind of camera, lights, microphones, and editing software you use. Oh, and how you create those stunning thumbnail images! 🙂

I point you did not make is women wearing to much smelly hand cream or to much perfume in the hygiene section.

What if you have a medical condition that's means you may have to leave for up to half an hour? Are the clocks paused and does someone stay with you to make sure there's no cheating?

Top 10 tips on how to look bad at a chess tournament

Do we need to say "checkmate" before making the final winning move?

Can you tell me, where i can get such a nice chessboard? TY!

Good tips. But you forgot 1 important thing: the except to the touch move rule where you call out "I adjust". That's a must for us OCD people.

Don't distract your opponent ???? Come on Anna… that smile of yours is the worst offender 🙂

Tnx so much I'm going to a tournament and its my first one I'm twelve btw 😅

When I lose I like to shatter the time clock, smash the board and scatter the pieces everywhere, then throw an all-out tantrum kicking and screaming and wildly attacking everyone in reach of my claws. That way they know I really care about chess.

    ..

I remember watching a Young Sheldon episode where he was playing chess against an IRS agent but was using his other hand to stop the clock.

    Excellent tips. Thank you!
P.S. You get more attractive very video! 😍
