A sport I know you like MMA had a blow up with calf kicks those became trendy and eventually a mainstream tactic. I don't remember who started using them heavily first but it's quite interesting to see new techniques develop in MMA and BJJ.

couldnt it be argued that pattern recognition, often at speed, is one of the markers of intelligence?

Football: it’s called “the tush push”. Quarterback sneak that everyone is trying to replicate but can’t. It happens in other sports too

I think there are trends in football (not American footbal).

Every pro sport league is a copycat league. Steph Curry changed the way the NBA played, the every team runs the tush push now after the Eagles last year.

A kebab of pieces. Levy knows how to invent himself over and over again.
    Great video, Fabi for President!

Hope this comment reaches you, Levy!
Great point about certain moves/styles determining the trend(s) within a certain period in time. In my handball career, I played against a young agile German player called Uwe Gensheimer (Nickname: "The Magic Wrist"). At the time he was still in full development, but he soon was able to produce a spectacular and unreadable wrist shot that put a certain unexpected spin on the ball. This move revolutionized shots that were taken at a tight angle (cfr. shots from the wing position) and – becoming more popularized – evolved the wing position into becoming more active and dangerous in attack, for those that were prone to such a style of play. Nowadays, this is a shot that is part of the arsenal of many players, but not many can disguise or redo it perfectly. In this sense, it is something that many players dabble into if needed!

Fun little trivia! Haha and I'm sure there are many more stories like these in many other sports. That's what keeps these sports so interesting ☺

Legends say that Knight is still stuck there in b7. 😂

Archery has quite an development behind it leading FITA to changing regulations for necessary pointgoals for different levels. So: There are trends

Only 10 years late, generational achievements aren't named that be seen generations later

Id say Steph curry started a trend. Peyton manning started a trend. Not quite like chess though

@gothamchess I bet you cant beat the magni

Styles do get trendy in stuff like football (non-american). Like Pep Guardiola really popularized possession tiki taka style of football and it's still really popular nowadays, alongside the WM system he plays right now that is a modern adaptation of another system that was played in the past century. Klopp when he came around (and Ralf Rangnick before him) really popularized high energy, high tempo pressing football. Etc. Formations get in and out of fashion over time.

Fun Fact: You know many players played their best game of life against Levon !!

@GothamChess btw you can edit shown elo rank on any browser via "ctrl+shift+c"

Yes there is a meta in all forms of competitive sports/gaming or anything.

Every time I win, I suspect myself of cheating.

Levy: now black can play C5!!!!
Stockfish: maaan shut your damn mouth
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Basketball has trendy strategies like drawing fouls and shooting 3s

Thank you Levy for this beautiful story

Hey Levy, in starcraft two there’s a bunch of meta strategies that get trendy and fall by the wayside once a counter has been found. Is pylon rushing still a thing?

I love how subtle Fabiano's play is; and his counterattacks (in other games) with squeezing winning chances out of stone

This has to be my favorite game of all time.

The only correct response to accusations of cheating is "thank you for the compliment". The onus isn't on you to prove a negative, and accusation isn't proof.

OH NO three videos without Magnus i think levy has been hacked

i guess different "trends" or "metas" are more common in different e-sports (strategy games, etc.) though there its mostly due to different balance changes, which dont exist in chess.

As a matter of fact, skateboarding tricks experience trends, there are some tricks that were considered ugly 10 years ago that are now making a big comeback

Legend says… the knight is still standing there to this day

Why did bro change the thumbnail and video name 😹😹

Baseball shifts were the same kind of concept, some teams began the change and then it became the norm before it was banned.
