The pros will find new strats to beat older strats or new mechanics to outplay other common strats or mechanics, I played Rocket League at a semi pro level and yea the meta was changing constantly as the game was fresh. Real world sports are not so similar to chess in this way because IMO there is only so many ways a soccer team [for example] can be set up and how they car play the game compared to chess with so much more variety. Just my 2c.

Americzn football is seeing a ton of shifting trends lately. Defenses are figuring out how to stifle the pass meta of the past decade. Its a whole thing, there are a ton of youtube videos abiut it
New trends in sports happen all the time. It's why coaches exist – to see what's being experimented with and what's working. Think of American Football plays. Hockey, it's visible if you're looking for it – very amusing to see Canada vs USA for the exact changes from previous games.
Trendy ideas do exist in other sports. I think you watch football/soccer right? You mentioned Leroy Sane once. So, Sane reached his peak when playing for Manchester City as a left winger – and he is a left-footed. Before Guardiola arriving at England, that kind of winger who plays on the side of his favorable foot seemed to be out of meta for so long with the rising of inside forward – wingers who play on the opposite side of their favorable foot (ex. Ronaldinho, Ribery – Robben of Guardiola himself). But with new ideas developed, the classical wingers are back with new modern task. And others trendy ideas/metas like that. So yes, meta do exist in other sports.
