A brief history of chess – Alex Gendler
Trace the storied history of the game of chess, from its origins in 7th century India to the computer software we use today.
—
The attacking infantry advances, their elephants already having broken the defensive line. The king tries to retreat, but the enemy flanks him from the rear. Escape is impossible. This isn’t a real war— nor is it just a game. Over the 1,500 years of its existence, chess has been known as a military strategy tool, a metaphor for human affairs and a measure of genius. Alex Gendler shares its history.

Weiqi is nothing like Xiangqi. We have different types of chess games in China and Weiqi is one of a kind.
Chess is so balanced it hasn't got nerf or buffs since release.

Loved the ending scene , nice animation.
The treadmill meant to be a torture device? No surprises there lol

True even though chess computers can outsmart us, at the end of the day its still machines we can well beat by shutting it down

Why the king in chess has no power? Just like modern monarchies in UK, Japan, etc..
I mean I would like it if it did have some powers
I don't know why but whenever I look at India's historical importance it saddens me deeply of what has become of our country…
A small mistake in the video:
The Chinese game, Go, is a different game than chess, where stones are placed around pieces to capture territory. The game that they meant, with pieces being placed on intersections, is just simply called Chinese Chess.

"Hate, let me tell you how much I've come to HATE you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of wafer thin layers that fill my complex, if the word hate was engraved in each nano-angstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles – it would not equal one one billionth of the hate I have for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate."
The church cationed against using to much time on chess?
Where they also afraid you would become general and slaughter people. Oh wait they supported that part at the times.
It's kind of the best game ever.
It lasted ages, and never needed many changes throughout the years.
and hnefetafal ca. in 700ade
It was called Chaturanga, derived from Charturangini army.
It was in army that had 4 organs foot soldiers, cavalry, elephant and chariots.
Hi
The earliest texts referring to the origins of chess date from the beginning of the 7th century. Three are written in Pahlavi (Middle Persian)[40] and one, the Harshacharita, is in Sanskrit.
Wikipedia
so there is no document to show it is invented in India, instead there are more docs that prove it was made in Persia. surprisingly the video emphasize on legends as historic evidence!
3:19 The square colors are wrong, the bottom left should always be dark colored
The knight is my fav piece. He isn’t dramatic like the other pieces. He can jump over everyone else.
Man, I really like Remus & Kiki's animation style. You can recognise it in a heart beat
