Didn't have to watch the video to know the answer was yes, but the fact that it was an entertaining watch, was a nice bonus
I think the board was made huge on purpose for an entertainment value, because this is essentially an easier version of blindfolded chess

This is great, but the friggin sound of the pieces sliding on the board kinda makes in unwatchable for me. :/
the video is pointless because we already know that they can also imagine and play an entire game just in their mind
Should've at least put the clock closer or at best, have another person control it with a voiced command. Running back and forth to the clock turned out to be more of a hinderance than the pieces.

This only reminds me of the time my Chess Club senior 'wanted my help with practicing', so we played a normal game of chess except he kept his eyes closed the entire time with me announcing my moves, and moving his pieces for him… He mopped the floor with me… Chess isn't the same without you, Brandon.

This was WAY more entertaining than I expected it to be:
Kudos to both players for keeping it so interesting until the time had run out
(in the case of GM Howell who nevertheless kept it competitive throughout)
The first game turned into cardio at the end lmao
I kept waiting for Magnus to pick up a captured piece and start playing with it it

"Can Magnus Carlsen play blindfold chess?" in other words. I'll go with yes, he can and better than the non-professional he's facing.
Do it with Fisher Chess (Chess 960) with the other guy knowing which piece is which from the beginning and Magnus having to guess. That might actually give the amateur a useful advantage.
Well, Magnus the pieces, that's why he won. But I understand what you meant in the title.
I can kinda see why magnus doesnt want to play as much anymore, this is a good example of it. this is just a nothing on the line kinda game, just for fun. yet david is running himself out of breath to win. dont get me wrong david did nothing wrong and i would have done the same in his shoes. but put yourself in magnus shoes, the dude cant just have fun with chess. ever game he plays even if there's nothing on the line its an opportunity for someone to say, "i beat magnus", so they play like it. not even with games but he can live one game and instantly have an interview where they make him do puzzles in front of cameras. im sure its a lot for the guy.
meanwhile me not even knowing where the king and queen go on a regular board…
