The 9th Torneo Internacional de Ajedrez “Ciudad de Linares” was organized under the direction of Luis Rentero Suarez. The number of players was increased from 12 to 14, and with the participation of both players from the Kasparov – Karpov World Championship Match (1990) (which ended December 31st), it was the first ever Category 17 event (average rating 2651-2675). The players were: Garry Kasparov (Elo ranked #1 in the world), Anatoly Karpov (#2), Boris Gelfand (#3), Vassily Ivanchuk (#4), Mikhail Gurevich (#6), Jaan Ehlvest (#7), Valery Salov (#9), Alexander Beliavsky (#10), Gata Kamsky (#13), Viswanathan Anand (#14), Jan Timman (#16), Jonathan Speelman (#25), Artur Yusupov (#31), and Ljubomir Ljubojevic (#40). Of the top 10 players in the world, only Evgeny Bareev (#5) and Leonid Yudasin (#8) were missing. Fourteen players had signed up for the event in October, 1990. Two of them, Nigel Short (#15) and Miguel Illescas Cordoba (#98), were replaced by Gurevich and Speelman. According to Leontxo García, Illescas was again “excluded” by Rentero in order to reach Category 17. Salov had played in Hoogovens (1991) in January. Karpov, Gurevich, Ehlvest and Kamsky had played in Reggio Emilia A1 (1991), and Beliavsky and Ljubojevic in Reggio Emilia A2 (1991), both in January. Six of the players (Gelfand, Ivanchuk, Anand, Timman, Speelman and Yusupov) came from the Candidates preliminary matches that ended in early February.

    Bonita partida.gracias agadmator's Saludos.

I love your channel not just because of how well you analyze games and explain each one in such an entertaining way, but also because you always show your admiration and respect for chess history!

Amazing game I have not seen before! Botvinnik was a chess genius.

Cant you put a hoodie to Botvinnik with photoshop ? 😂😂😂

Say 'simulation' then say 'simultaneously' then think about what you've done.

Unless you like American English which is fine 😂

That's a great story. Don't feel bad Capa.

According to GM fanboys he must have cheated with butt beads. As we all know, it's impossible for a world champion to lose against an amateur.

Capablanca underestimated the kid and lost ? You call this news ? Never underestimate! My father taught me very well to NEVER underestimate anyone which is why i dont any have any black stains like this on my record as I killed everyone. My father was also particularly hard on women chess players as he considered them a total joke, what the hell could a stupid weak women do, nothing!

Can’t imagine Capablanca lost any of the other games during this exhibition. What a game!

Nic (J Bruce Feynman Niccolo P. Bentulan) says:

2nd comment: 13:30 basically a nobody kinda like Wesley So aka 'w'esley 's'o, a nobody for Tigran L Petrosian, yet beat that TALENTLESS PATZER Magnus Carlsen 13.5-2.5. Also Wesley So drew with Hikaru in classical chess960, but Hikaru is talentless too, at least in classical. Hikaru never won a classical chess960 game! Magnus has the most classical chess960 losses! LOL!!!!

The 2 so-called world champions right now ARE FAKE. HAHAHAHAHAHA. THEY ARE EVEN BEING SUED BY A TEENAGER THAT'S HOW FAKE YOU KNOW GASAI THEY ARE.

Wesley So & Nepo / Liren ARE THE REAL WORLD CHAMPIONS. HAHAHAHAHAHA. There's a difference between number 1 chess player & world chess champion. Nepo / Liren is legitimate. But Magnus is fake WCC for being 5x WCC and not WC or rapid WC. Hikaru is fake WC for being rapid WC but being talentless in classical WC and for acknowledging FIDE's calling Hikaru the 2nd WC instead of the 1st rapid WC.

FIDE RIGHT NOW HAS 2 FAKE WORLD CHAMPIONS SUED BY A TEENAGER. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Nic (J Bruce Feynman Niccolo P. Bentulan) says:

Philippine women's chess #suggestion – WGM Janelle Frayna, the female Wesley So, upset Georgian GM (really GM not just WGM) Bela Khotenashvili at the 2022 world blitz.

    There's a 13-move UNDERPROMOTION puzzle here.

    [Variant "From Position"]

    [FEN "6k1/6b1/1p1P3p/6pP/3pPpP1/p2NqP2/6K1/5Q2"]

    1. Qd1 a2 2. Qb3+ Kf8 3. d7 Qe2+ 4. Nf2 Ke7 5. Qd5 Kd8 6. Qe6 Bf6 7. Qe8+ Kc7 8. Qc8+ Kd6 9. e5+ Qxe5 10. d8=R+ Bxd8 11. Qxd8+ Kc6 12. Qa8+ Kb5 13. Qxa2

For some reason none of the Philippine channels except Kelvinllovejr even cover this game. LOL. But Janelle did cover the game where e drew against Nemo, so maybe Janelle will cover this game later on.

P.S. Please help get Wesley So on Lex Fridman's podcast. See

Sorry, but the date and place must be wrong because on Nov-20 was the 8 round played in Moscow

That leader board is wild for the number of openings you have named after those guys. There's several Lasker variations in openings (QGD), the bogo Indian, the marshall attack, several tartakower variations(Caro kann is the most famous I think), there is the Reti, the grunfeld, I'm sure there's a Samisch in the KID, Rubinstein in, I think, the French? And that's just the ones I know.

and it was in this position, that Agad revealed the identity of the mysterious opponent, as there was nothing more to be done

After some digging around online, I actually was able to find the name of the Very Strong Unknown Player – it was young Mr. Hoodie Guy, although, during his youth, he went by "Mr. Hoodie Boy" until he was an adult. One of the most famous yet somehow unknown players of all time.

Hopefully you see this but please analyze Simon Williams rd 2 game 1 victory in the Reykjavik open 3/30
It’s truly an amazing attacking game

Antonio you REALLY need to cover Ginger GM Simon William's game from the Reykjavic Open today, it was a true immortal.

#suggestion Check out GM Simon Williams' game at the Reykjavik Open from today (Thu March 30th), first round. Brilliant game, that I think your viewers would thoroughly enjoy!

Why are you not wearing the hoodie to honor that guy? 😁

not sure if you are going to see this but Simon Williams game happening right now is worth checking out, queen sack and everything #suggestion

When that Hoodie gyu turns into Mikahil Botvinnik ,Real Goosebumps 🔥😍

This video inspired me to purchase the "To enjoy the show" hoodie. Your content is amazing, thank you 🙂

Stories, people, and their histories make this channel great!

Agad you TRICKED ME into wearing a hoodie!!! 😮😮

Botvinnik born 1911. Tournament was held in 1925. Would put him at exactly 14. He also beat Capablanca a few years down the road as an adult.

Well played sir. A rare hoodie reveal.

Knowing capablanca's background, and his big ego; most likely he left the board abruptly after his defeat, very angry. kasparov did the same thing when he lost to very young Carlsen.

Lasker was I think 60 in this tournament. That would be like Kasparov playing in the Tata and coming in second. Lasker proved at this tournament that he is the chess Goat.

Just two more sleeps until (I hope) agadmator posts one of his famous April Fool's videos. #suggestion Hint Hint

I played in The Manhattan. during the 80s & 90s. I had simuls with Tal, & Albert. Along with dozens of IMs & GMs. Pandolphini, Benjimen, Hoffman, Dzenji, Bonin…& lots more. So much fun. Kasparov played next door in The Russian Tea Roon & came up to analyze his games.

Kid must have cheated with the engine. The word "bot" is literally right there in the name

In this movie about Capablanca https://youtu.be/gQShw80vens at the time stamp 1:02:52 He's playing in this exhibition game and Botvinik is at the last table and after Casablanca makes his move he pulls the tournament director aside and asks him who is the player on the last board to which he replies Mikail Botvinik he's at the 2nd level in the Russian chess school. Casablanca chuckles and says in my country he'd be national champion I'd like to see what he can do 10 tens years from now.

why ain't you playing hoodie agad? XD
