Does he just do these strange openings to create challenges for himself because bored?

I appreciate your unwavering acknowledgement of your viewers.

    New rule, My rule.
He know he can beat anyone on end game, because all GMs where heavily relies on theory, That's what separate him among others.

The play with the outside pawns should be called the Magnus. He is redefining chess openings and it's absolutely brilliant.

names for the opening – long frown? long scowl?

The difference is that Magnus is the best Chess player in the world & all the new & upcoming GMs are Computer/Robot Chess GMs. They only understand Book moves & theory. They don’t actually know how to play the same game that Magnus does. He’s literally playing his own game against these GMs. They’re amazing at recall, but lost when it comes to actually playing raw Chess with the Champ.

Been saying it for years but after these last months I KNOW it is really true: Magnus is two parts chess genius, one part Internet troll, stirred and served with a chessboard.

"Bunny Ears" 🐇?? Minuette Magnus !?
    🌟The Hedgehog. 🌟Hippopotamus.
    Crab Magnus. Basman's Minuette.
    The St. George. 💎 🔥🔥🔥 🐉

My vote: call it the prank (peripheral rank) opening.

I really admire Carlsen for getting out of every rational players comfort zone by playing these openings.

Stockfish legit played that opening against me last night, I was a little confused but I guess stockfish studied this game!😂

That's got to hurt going to the game review after.

Let's remember these are blitz games. Moves that work here may not work, may well be refuted in conventional games. I find all this entertaining, but it proves little.

Magnus' radical play has totally energized the chess world. He's breaking the often-boring theoretical rules and has shown how truly great he is.

Call it pseudo-hypermodernism from Magnus: "even if I make dumb opening moves, my opponent's game is still in its last throes."

This just goes to show that if you know what you're doing, you can play literally ANY series of opening moves! One basic reason (or justification) for this is obvious. Any opening move can be used to transform into a more conventional opening, depending on the situation. So in that case, all we're really doing is changing the ORDER of the opening moves, which leads us to a more conventional setup. Another reason why a totally unconventional opening can be advantageous is that your opponent will oftentimes NOT know how to refute that particular opening, thereby giving YOU the opportunity to execute your plan unchallenged. Of course, Magnus can get away with playing virtually ANY series of opening moves, because he instinctively knows how everything works…no ifs, ands, or buts.

    Karpov – Miles 1980 e4 a6, d4 b5 0-1 46 moves. EUR-chT

He’s bored…he is so much better than everyone else he needs to mix it up.

Well, as you showed, he should have lost. The other guy choked. That said, What Magnus is doing in these rapid games is testing out strategies: seeing what works and what doesn't in relatively meaningless tournies. That way, when the long games get played, he'll be ready.

As a carpenter im saying this opening should be called “under the eaves”

Magnus is taking GMs into a deep, dark forest

If the Pawn on one side is the "Saint George" pawns on both sides is "The Madness of King George".

This is a classic Monobrow, also known as The Roman Arch, also known as the Cucumber Defense.

The lesson here is don’t learn to play chess by first learning opening. You must Master the game in reverse. First study the End Game, then the middle, then learn how those two things fallback into the opening.

When I start off with pawn to a6 & c5 you guys are asking me if I even know how to play.

The air quality must have been compromised in Anand's room not to find the winning ideas

It's the Venus Fly Trap…. tickle the middle and it snaps shut!

Make a story, the pieces are your demons?

It's safe to say chess has never seen anything like Magnus. Just amazing.
