What I’ve learned: if you win against a computer, it was going easy on you

The word 'şah-ma' translates to 'The king is dead'

Didn’t expect to see a contrapoints tweet in here

Shout out to ContraPoints gettingna tweet featured, we stan our chess playing queen

The queen should be called what it was originally called , the vizier, or prime minister. And the king should just be the monarch. That takes gender out of chess completely and makes it about positions. It makes sense that the vizier would move the most because that’s the person who does all the actual wheeling and dealing while the monarch hangs in the background. This king queen nonsense is dumber

You need to update 14:00 checkmate by en passant! (THE ROOOK) 🙂

I speak Arabic which is similar to Persian and mat means died

    1. f3 e5 or e6 2. g4 Qh4# <– (The fastest checkmate)

Fun fact, in Arabic countries rooks are called Castles, Knight are called Horses, and Bishops are called Elephants

whats with the giant pepper grinder on the left of him?

the absence of the chess musical is deafening

I cant remember where I seen it, but if I remember correctly. Most chess players use their brains so much it actually burns lots of calories. Also its why most grandmasters seem to be relatively fit people.

Bro kinda looks like someone squished Nick Kroll and Daniel Radcliff together.

Come on, where's Alexander Alekhine among your top players?!?! Arguably the best attacking player EVER.

Are Adolf Anderssen's rook sacrifices in the immortal Game (London, 1851, Anderssen–Kiesetizky) really sound? Why wouldn't 20. – Bb7 or 20. – Ba6 save Black?

'And vibrating devices in their shoe or elsewere' hahahah

I find it funny that bishop in romanian has 2 names. One is “ofițer” ,which means officer or army enforcer, but more commonly it is called “nebun” which is madman

Well in Spanish they are called horse haha

Schachmatt is also German. Schach is the German word for Chess and matt means something like weak or powerless

I played a quick game of chess before watching this video and turns out I unintentionally won with the caro-kahn defense lol

I was watching with just captions and was shocked that Levy got the German word wrong @15:24, but he didn't. The caption says "zwischenzug", which means "in-between move", rather than what Levy correctly said, which is "zugzwang".

Great video generally. Just a small comment: The opening is often not only defined by the extent of book moves. It is perhaps importantly for many players the phase of game covered by opening strategy of development , getting central control, pieces knight bishop out without delay, King safety etc and balancing this against grabbing initiative or early attack

Man's really just described my childhood. 👀 He was talking about his childhood and just explained mine. Except the first opening I picked up wasn't Caro-Kann. I've just picked it back up about three days ago. I hope to stay with it this time. 👍

Isn't Alpha Zero the best computer, not Stockfish?

Some people say the "middle game" begins when one or both players have connected rooks on the back line (ie. developed all major pieces, taking connected rooks to be a development in its own right)

How can we get a giant chess figure? Like a rook.

I can see some scenario where promoting to a Knight can be advantages but when would you ever want to promote a Pawn to a Rook or Bishop?
