ABOUT WIRED
WIRED is where tomorrow is realized. Through thought-provoking stories and videos, WIRED explores the future of business, innovation, and culture.
I have always thought knights were better early/mid game and bishops were better mid/end game.
I always love playing chess. Now I’m going to get good at it 😈
The Charles Leclerc of chess
Imo. Carslen surpassed Casparov now. At least as an overall player. His dominance in rapid and blitz (and bullet) at the same time as being the undisputed #1 in classical for over a decade, is just something that nobody has every done before. Carlsen has had all 3 titles at the same time THRICE…
checkmate is also called shah mat in albania. even if we check we say shah, if you check the queen its called sheh.
Chess originated in India
13:33 he sacrifices the ROOK!!!
People think promoting to Queen is always the best, but sometimes you want to promote to Knook or even Rook to make use of castle boosting
Everyone fears the Zugzwang
I understand that Knights are good for forking and protecting, but how is that better than a piece that can get checkmate?
Knight to H3
Shah Mate in russian is also move mate
Levy might now be the best chess player. But I think he is the best chess teacher. For chess streamer, hats off to hikaru nakamura
vibrations in there shoe or elsewhere
i feel like pawn a5 is also a useless start
“There’s not a lot of substance abuse in chess”
Laughs in Adderall
Omg I can’t believe contrapoints had a question here!
I love the way this guy explains chess. He's clearly thought about and helped a lot of people learn chess before and had super sticky explanations for everything seemingly off the top of his head.
0:21 He actually pronounced it very well
They did Levy dirty by not using his proper prefix (I.M.)
I never thought id see levy here lol
Noah?
“Vibrating device in your shoe or elsewhere?” Hmm 🤔, I wonder what he could be referring too???
0/10 no en passant
0:25 – Persian word pronounced "Shahh mahtt". German word: "Schach matt" pronounced exactly the same way. English: "I gotchu, fam. Tcheeekkk… mmaayyytt."
"Very good. And this is an ananas."
"Gotchu fam. Piiine… aaapp…"
well in german schachmatt the schach may have the same origin, matt means dull or not shiny anymore.
who's the chess pro? i don't see him
those puzzles were super easy and i'm around 1200 so of course a youtuber could solve them
Mate is Arabic word its meaning dead
I am too stupid to be good at chess.. LOL
ContraPoints? Are we going to see Lady Foppington break out the chess board? 😀
Vibrating devices in their shoe… or elsewhere. Gotta love the "beads" reference, go Levy.
Bruh that glint in Gotham's eye when he said 'or elsewhere' SENT me. I saw that smirk.
15:24 It's called "zugzwang", not "zwischenzug".
contrapoints reference?
i love Gothamchess shorts
F4
14:06 little does he that later there would be an enpasent checkmate
Really interesting, I haven't played chess in many years but I'm considering getting back into it.
7:20 uh what about Garry Chess?!??
Seems like a chill guy to chat to
9:55 in Dutch it’s actually just called a “paard” or horse
Awesome to see Patrick Bet-David too. Absolute G
He should have answered correctly that statistically white wins a bit more games, so on its own it is an advantage.
Levy's an excellent communicator and teacher.
0:33 btw in Russian the game itself called "Shahmate"
And we saying "shah" instead of "check" and "mat" instead of "checkmate"
Levy is legit carrying the chess community on his own, crazy.
We love ContraPoints in this house
.
Any move that gives your opponent checkmate..?
