In iran, a Knight is infact called a horse, a Bishop is called an elephant( cause iran was never christian and never will be) and a queen is called a "Vazir" cause women didn't belong I battles. The orgin of chess goes back to ancient Indian and Persian empire, hence the names.

in Hungarian checkmate is actually called sakk matt

Levy knows when to be hype and funny, and when to be a respectful gentleman
Hopes he keep up the unbelievable entertaining content, he never failed in making my day , all love and support 🫶🫶

He is wrong because șah mat is in The language Romania and in romania șah means chess

in german the knight is called a Springer, which means Jumper, cause it's the only piece that can jump, but can also be called the Pferd (Horse)

also the persian way of checkmate sounded the same way it's said in german

also Zugzwang, he pronounced it almost right, but the Zs are said like "ts"

i just got spoilered for GOT in a chess video. Everything can happen nowadays

For a minute I thought the rook could go to ANY square on the h-file OTHER THAN h6 but then I realized that if 1. Rh2 (or 3 or 4 or 5) then 1. …h6 and it's drawn. I also hadn't noticed that if 1. Rh6…gxh6 then 2. f7# which is important to be able to see that 1. Rh6 is the solution. It just looked like a hung rook on h6 at first. smh

Oh wow in romanian checkmate is șah mat which is pronounced the same he said it

    Shah mat means in Arabic
    Shah: King
    Mat: died

In Hungary we say “Sakk Matt” for checkmate

It's funny how different names can be. In German, the knight is named "Springer", which means jumper and the bishop is named "Läufer", which means runner. The rook is just named "Turm" which simple means tower and a pawn is named "Bauer", which literally means farmer. Only king and queen are named the same.

14:00 yo stooped you can t kel the king 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It's weird how he didn't stare at the camera for 5 seconds this time 😭

One of the reasons I came back to chess was because of Gotham Chess.

With FIDE Master level of ELO 2300 one has already reached mastery. You don't need a Grandmaster title to have mastered the game of chess.

"I'm Levy Rozman, chess educator and website destroyer."

What is the strongest piece in chess.I know that rooks are very important

i want to learn chess just because I wanna have fun

I though it was an Australian guy telling his opponent to check his king.

Arent there newer chess AI's that use a different approach than just a search over moves with heuristical analysis of positions? Neural Network driven AI tends to do things a bit different, learning patterns rather than just "looking ahead". You could say they are more alike in their "thinking" to humans than older engines, ya know, they don't miss things or make mistakes nearly as often as humans do. That's the same concept that finally allowed AI to start beating humans at Go and more complex games, like video games such as Starcraft (in which realistically you cannot predict future occurrences or game states anymore because with real-time strategy games, there are a virtually infinite number of possible states, even compared to chess).
I honestly haven't read any papers about newer chess AI, and it probably is more of a semantic difference than anything, but it's interesting to me.

Just got into chess. Learned how to move and the rules as a kid but never played seriously until now. Is it better to actually study the game and put time into it or just keep playing off instincts? I seem to do fairly well after only a few days but I'm obviously only playing other 400's at my level…

I like how Contrapoints just appeared ha

In Bulgarian language, and probably other languages, we call the knight as a horse.

levy : vibrating device somewhere like in your show or somewhere else…

    this aged well

1:32 I argue that the Queens Gambit was not accurate because they left out the most iconic thing about chess games. People loudly coughing

Why is castling described as the king moving 2 spaces then the rook moving to the other side? Why not say that the rook moves over next to the king then the king hops over the rook?
Does it have something to do with the official rules needing a way to reference where the king moves to prevent moving through check?

Well the word checkmate means “the king is hopeless”

if what you're saying is about the origins of the word is correct then the most understandable translation is the is dead the king is the closest thing to a shah in English and mat directly translate to dead i know because my native language and Persian share some words so the word checkmate means the king is dead

My favorite chess game in movies has to be Cheers, won't spoil it but it's Sam vs Robin Colchort and its ending is so chaotic and funny!

shah in albanian is atacking the queen or the rook mat means checkmate

I just learned what en passant is during a match. I thought he was cheating! Lol
