why doesnt he include Mikhail Tal in the greatest chess players of all time?

FYI, mat part of shahmat means dead or died

14:36 that’s a beautiful puzzle! i first thought it was impossible until i remembered that black is still forced to make a move even if no threats are made. and of the two legal moves, one weakens the position and the other improves it, so we just have to prevent the one that improves the position, so black is forced to make themselves vulnerable

Fun fact: here in hungary we call chess sakk (pronounced as if it was shakk) and call check mate sakk matt (like the Persians)

played as much chess as I can, and studied as much chess as I can, now I have no social life. what do

    THE ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

One big reason a knight is considered better then a bishop is because when it attacks a piece that piece can’t attack back unless another knight. (Reason why knight forks can be crazy good)

    09:57 Actually, in Turkish some pieces have more logical names;
Ex: Knight piece in Turkish has the name "At" which means directly "Horse"
Queen piece has the name "Vezir" which means like "prime minister"

The reason the knight is the house is because knight typically rode horses

unexpected contrapoints cameo!! natalie and levi…two people i assumed would never interact

Yes, here in Serbia we call chess "šah" or "шах" (pronounced shah(latin and cyrillic letters)), and mate is "mat" or "мат". I think Russians also call it shah.

i feel like if u value ur queen too much, u may lose sight of the other pieces which may even have more impact than a queen

2:00 I think you uploaded the wrong picture, that is clearly Leonardo DiCaprio

At least we know where contrapoints has been, playing chess in her room by the sounds of it

The Waffle House has found its new host.

In the last puzzle why cant you just take with the pawn? I mean the only legal move left is the same pawn move which will allow queen to g8 checkmate.

imagine the psychological battle the opponent must have if a GM plays F3 as the first move

i was thinking of a snake before he said it and i was surprised he said it

Vibrating devices in their shoe or elsewhere 😮

queens gambit was really just average i cant understand why ppl was so excited about it. btw i guess Magnus wont beat that record 🙂 and i wont comment some meh questions but if you can ask IM for anything about chess and you ask about castling its kinda lame…

at 3:30 he says on move one there are twenty options but wouldn't there be 24 if you include the knights?

Daniel Radcliffe is doing weirder and weirder roles I love it.

Wow didn't know Persia had anything to do with chess, also mat means died

I was shocked to hear Levy say chess in my own language (Armenian). I had no clue it meant anything

0:25 we use this word in hebrew too! It's interesting to see what is the source for it.

9:57 Cause Knights usually rode horses. Knights were not just soldiers they were of higher status and therfore could afford a horse and also the prestige of being allowed to use it in battle unlike lesser foot soldiers and archers (however Knights could be archers) that's why the moves mimic a horse charging and taking a cutting 90 degree turn to attack (how the swing of a sword would be used in battle as the horse veered left or right)

I definitely do not play half my games as white and black I mainly play black, why? Because, resign.

Can’t help myself notice that he kinda look like Daniel Radcliffe a bit
