You've accomplished so much these past few years. From 2736 back to 2780, improved results against Magnus including the SCC, winning the Grand Prix, at Candidates you were within a hairsbreadth of playing for the WCC.
The draw was the right choice for the tournament and your precious rating points. But I think you'll look back on it as the wrong choice. You're 35, how many more opportunities while at or near your prime are you going to get against Magnus in classical, especially given you don't play classical tournaments much anymore? You had the white pieces, Magnus clearly has a bit of rust, your mental complex against Magnus has faded a great deal… this was it! You should have burned your best prep and gone for it, win or lose. One win against Magnus in classical is worth more than hitting 2800 again.
