I knew top players are great at calculations but I haven't really seen it much in real time like that. Hikaru's calculation is really impressive here in those few seconds. I wouldn't be able to see it in an hour. My mind usually gets stuck after calculating 3 moves, I don't know which move was which and where the pieces are anymore. I don't think I have that ability as I seem to lack the same ability in math. When it gets past 3 operations I've always had to make some notes to see where I am in those equations. I guess calculating like the pros is similar to being able to solve complex mathematical equations without a piece of paper, just visualizing it. I was pretty good at math, just lacked the brain power to visualize too much ahead so it took me ages to finish tests.

What I do when my queen is threatened and I can't do much to save it is to also hit their queen, whatever material I have
Levy your game with grunbergmihai you could have sac'd the queen and took it with a room and it was a checkmate
So I'm pretty bad (like 900 elo) but can someone explain why Levy doesn't sacrifice the queen at 18:33? if Qh8+, Bxh8 is forced, then Rxh8# right?
You say beginners are around a 1000 rating? I'm around 240 and only just started playing lol 😆

the sad truth is if youre not 1800 after a few months youll never be good enough to make chess anything more than a hobby.for some reason these professionals are born with some sort of spark. sure practice is extremely important but at some point youll hit your max and if you dont have that "spark" your max wont be any higher than about 1800.
i went up from 336 to 689 in less than 1 hour after watching this i dont play a lot so im kinda bad but this doubled my rating, thanks bro

I was up about 1350 last week now I've dropped down to 1200 it seems like everything I studied for I've hardly been able to retain ANYTHING. It's strange to me because I study language too and I am able to retain a lot of what I learn but in chess I felt like I learned some good openings and some counters and then COMPLETELY forgot almost everything I learned and I can't explain why.
