True. I got restarted in chess before queens gambit, maybe a month before and helped kids learn the game. I just had e my 3rd annual chess tournament played and been fun. Hope chess continues to grow

Chess never became commercially viable because Fischer stopped playing. Plain and simple.
Chess has a pretty high threshold to understand it. It's not complex to understand basketball. It's harder to be vested in something that's difficult.
UFC/MMA struggled to gain popularity early on due in large part to a lack of understanding about how grappling and submissions were a viable approach to winning a fight. It took a LONG time before fight fans were able to get excited about the nuance of what was previously looked at as 'two guys rolling around on the ground' when compared to the much more obvious excitement of big punchers throwing knockout blows. Chess has a similar problem. Most folks simply don't understand the excitement of a tense position or appreciate the genius of setting up a move 10 moves in advance. People just need to learn more of those components to appreciate, value, and get excited for those moments…

I am all for modernizing some of the chess time controls but I do not think interjecting Chess Boxing is a good means to popularize chess.

I still remember when you started, agadmator was the biggest chess channel back then but you so quickly ran towards the top and capitalized off of chess's popularity. What I am trying to say is, the chess community is grateful for your efforts and we as much as you wish to see chess evolve and modernize, so thank you for your contribution for that goal. Used to be a youth player, participated in a national youth tournament.
I can say for a fact that chess is boring as fuck without proper casters.
Playing it is fun (to an extent) but if you see Magnus and Hikaru going at each other in any type of chess without another GM telling you what they are thinking, there is simply no way for it to be fun, since you won't know what they are even doing.

I think chess can still be enjoyed by normal viewers who don't even know the rules of chess.For example in my case; I used to get levy recommendation on my youtube page back in 2021 and would watch them all through and through without even knowing which piece is which or why a move is great for weeks.I just found it so captivating how levy got so enthused by these great moves made on the board.His over the top commentating skill also helped alot.What I'm saying is the only thing chess needs is a chance Especially formats like rapid and blitz.
