It's a bit like a lottery if you are both down to a few seconds, by the way I think you could have played b3, after Bb4 you have Nc6 and if he takes the knight you win the bishop.
I’m currently reading a book series called The Wandering Inn. One of the main characters plays chess like this and it’s really cool to see your thought process. It kind of adds to her character in a way! Super cool stuff!!

Someone once told me that crucial to winning at chess , one must develop three long term plans of checkmate . It’s like the POWs planning an escape from a German POW camp , so they dig three tunnels . That way when inevitably the Germans discover two tunnels , you still have the third tunnel . So in chess , if two of your long term plans to checkmate your opponent go south , you still have your third plan .
It seems that the objective of these games is to make few mistakes rather than make great moves. I do not know sufficiently about chess at this level so perhaps this is a silly comment that applies to all of chess.
