Bro doesn’t know about the Wayback Machine???

oh so cherry pick the games to support his suspicions, got it

"Extraordinary claims necessarily require extraordinary evidences."

I never expected this maxim would be used in the chess world. (Statistical analysis does not count when it comes to "extraordinary evidendes." I need to see a cold, hard evidence of cheating like "eye movement" from Petrosian for instance.)

just hear him out instead of beating around the bush

Man, I’m barely, just getting into chess (who knows how long I’ll play) but Levy is doing the game of chess a great service with his work on this channel. He does a great job.

The only thing I got from this is Kramnik doesn't know stats. Started out wacky with "MP" standing for "Mathematical Probablity"…. you'd just use P. He doesn't understand what kind of distribution or population he's talking about (given the shitty soccer comparison). Stats gets unintuitive sometimes, so for someone unfamiliar it can be hard to see how things add up. Stopped paying attention in class when we got to analysis of variance, so don't ask me how exactly to find the real statistical tests to use here.

I was just staring at Levy’s gotten the whole time. The left part of his mustache is a little shorter than the right side😩

This sounds like a situation where @standupmaths could get involved. i remember a great video explanation by matt about the dream minecraft cheating scandal a few years ago, which was about similar statistics (basic binomial distribution stuff)

Kramnik has always been a giant trash talker.

It's a VERY smart move for them to just mute the account and not ban it.

Personally, I'm here for the chess drama 🙋🏻‍♂

Blud is salty that hikaru is better than him

Levy almost failed to put Magnus in this video

Well a 12 year old also not yet GM beating a top super GM, probably 2nd in the world maybe first, gotta be a sus af

Chess Dot Scam tried to supplant FIDE because they weren't already making enough money, so they attacked grandmasters and acted as if their site was more important than the game itself. And guess what? Not everyone agrees. Levy, you should switch sides mate, cos you're on the wrong team, and deep down I think you know it. "edit" Danny Rensch is not deciding to mute Kramnik…" yeah, he literally is, because he gives it out but he can't take it. and then you finish that up pwith "Chess belongs to the public", lmfao, Lichess exists mate, we don't need Danny Rensch and his scam site and his attacks on teenage Grandmasters

I think people (including Kramnik) either rein denial or actually don't realise how much of a skill disparity there is between FIDE-rated 2700+ players are, from the rest of the world. And when you consider the top 5-10 in the world right now, it is really obvious how good they are – even with no prep, drunk, exhausted, etc. Their muscle memory is crazy. And then their efforts over the year to hone their craft to what it is today. Namely the top 10 players in the last 5 years consistently like: Magnus, Fabi, Hikaru, Nepo, Ding, So, MVL, Aronian, Giri, Alireza.

Are long win streaks strange? Maybe. But this is online Chess. It could very well be 50% of the games aren't legitimate attempts by the opponent to play good chess. It's not over the board, they've got people talking to them, they're doing stuff, they've got distractions, they're listening to podcasts. They're statistically going to blunder more often, so if you're trying 100%, you'll probably statistically win far more often then not.

Blud christmas is gothams advertising time for his failing cheese course

I'm glad Chesscom muted Kramnik's blog. At this point he's straight up in Mike Pillow/Rudy Giuliani territory. Real statisticians pointed out why he was incorrect and he deleted their comments. Threatening to post one person a day is real a-hole behavior. And his "criticisms" of Chesscom's analysis is meaningless word salad. He has no proof, no evidence and is too proud to admit it. He's clown shoes now.

Levy get him on we want to see it! 😂

The perfect christmas involves a blankey, hot coco and a gotham chess scandal video

The real shame of this situation is sadly, we will never know either way whether someone is cheating or not. Sure, someone may admit to it but other than that, its just probabilities and numbers. Kramnik is one of the greatest of all time and his opinions should be valued but saying "i'm not saying person A is cheating, I'm just pointing out how unlikely play like this is" is tantamount to accusing of cheating in my opinion. At the same time, cheating is a huge issue in the game. Im not sure what the solution is, i just believe what Kramnik is doing is wrong.

"Even a basic school education is enough to understand how uncompetent is the explanation of this research"

Ironic, considering this statement has two grammatical errors.

13:47: The irony of that sentence when he spells it as uncompetent instead of incompetent.

Lol this feels like mcarthys list of communists

The classic blunder of a smart person assuming just because they are very good at one thing (Chess) that means they are very smart at something else (Statistics).

What about to invite sombody who is expert on statistics becasue this is discussion concernig statistic methods?

goals scored in match – modelled by simple poisson process
expected max length of win streak – much more intricate to compute, even if we model each match as a coin flip there doesn’t appear to be an analytic formula for this (although it seems to grow logarithmically)

basically kramnik is sitting on the peak of dunning-kruger mount stupid

Merry Christmas Levy and Happy New Year

Kramnik probably just watched too much Russian TV recently. It can really melt one's brain, I know a nuclear scientist who now argues that "Russian math is the oldest and the bestest math."

I would just ignore the situation. nothing to gain for you, us as viewers and potential danger of picking the wrong side. Not worth it.

I want to confirm something; If a top level player cheats for 1 move per game, is that not impossible to catch?

One of the things that hurts me the most is the higher the status the lower the punishment, which means that you just need to cheat long enough and not get caught to gain that privilege?
Why aren't Kramnik and Magnus being severely punished for their false allegations? Because loke what happened with Niemann, those false allegations can take a heavy toll on the mental health and earnings potential, which are akin to the consequences of libel defamation and slander.

I think the correct response would be to make an argument, or even publish a peer reviewed paper making a statistics based argument about detecting cheating in chess compared to other cheat detection methods. Then highlight players for scrutiny based on this method.

Kramnik accusing people of cheating is like the pot calling the kettle black (i.e. Toiletgate).

That's sad. Dude was a legend and now he's just a meme.

This is the natural result when top chess player are afforded immense privilege. If they do not face any consequences for their actions, they will act like children. Magnus has gotten away with this many times, and Kramnik has felt emboldened by it.

Let's be clear. Being good at chess does not mean you are a "critical thinker" or even an "intelligent" person. It only, ONLY means that you are good at chess. That is all.

Levy: Its binary. You are either cheating or you aren't

Kramnik: So 50% of chess players are cheaters

26mins of pure waffle. could of been said in 2 mins

Not to mean any dissrespect, but this whole situation gives "ols man screams to a cloud". It's just a full on tantrum at this point, something has been made, a solution has been given yet he insists he's right… I don't know

Censorship is never the answer. Let the pieces fall as they may, let the people decide whether they agree with his opinions or not.
This decision just turns him into a martyr and sets precedent for more censorship.

Levy is just towing the line here.

People definitely cheat. Who, when, how often 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s the beginning of the end

You’d think someone with a deep understanding of such a mathematical game would be able to understand the maths required to determine cheating in the game… What he said about the number of games did not make sense. A streak of 34 out of 34 games is incredibly unlikely, while a streak of 34 games out of tens of thousands is fairly likely.

Kramnik obviously does not understand probabilities and math in this situation and is unwilling to learn or to defer to those with expertise in the area and it’s embarrassing
