Kramnik and Nepo lost all the respect I had for them, and I know I'm not alone saying this. Ridiculous. They should keep crying more, it is entertaining and they don't even realize it only benefits Hikaru with all these titles and videos making a ton of money for him ๐ I really can't believe these guys have been playing at a level this high for this long, with these personalities. Just being a GM is a statistical anomaly. There are 1773 grandmasters, for 800 million chess players.
Following that broken logic he had 1/800 million chances to be a world champion.
Hereโs the thing statistics is one thing but at the end of the day itโs two people playing against each other. One day you might be feeling really good. You could get lucky that you prepped exactly what they decided to play. Your opponent can throw the game. The fact that humans are involved and people arenโt always performing at their own rating means that itโs possible to have a streak that defies the rating system.
Hikaru brings up a good point near the end too. If youโre playing a player over and over in blitz online and you keep beating them they can get tilted and their chances of winning drop significantly.

One of the biggest factors they ignore is opening repetoire imo. Chess is unlike any other sport. Some players prepare only a few openings at a time, especially when it comes to tournaments such as world chess championship where you see the same opening every game. Now in these openings they may only prepare a few different variations. If you just happen to have a better understanding of that opening than your opponent and he is forced into either using the same opening every time that you are better prepared for or an opening they do not know so well, its very unlikely they will be able to beat you. Some times games can follow another game for 20+ moves! Imagine following a game you just beat him in for 20 moves, leading to most probably, the same result.
I'm sure Hikaru needs to cheat against lower level players, and not against Magnus ๐

OMG the sarcasm extends to the thumbnail. Usually math thumbnails show really complex equations, but to really dig at him, they put incredibly simple equations in the thumbnail! A+ for creativity!

You simply need a second camera from behind showing the screen(s). Vanishingly unlikely that he's cheating with that view provided too. Is there a way to do that without being ott? Doubt its possible (effective) to cheat in bullet regardless

I had been planning to check your games for win/draw/loss chances. I doubt you will be much different than Magnus. Stats are tricky. It is easy to use stats incorrectly, especially trying to make a particular set mean something they don't, or something more than they do. I see where Kramnik is going to be a bit off base or using stats in a biased way. People also struggle with the fact they played poorly and lost to someone who played very well, or that they are getting old. I have days where I play 200 points worse than I am capable. I am sure this is difficult for a former 2700ish world champ, to only play as well as an ordinary GM and get outplayed.

The idea that sub-1% statistics when applied to one of the top .000001% chess players would be unusually shows Kramnik's COMPLETE lack of understanding. The best golfers in the world ROUTINELY make sub 1% statistical shots. how about the best pool players in the world? consider the WSOP and with thousands of entrants and millions of hands somehow the same pros end up winning?!?! It doesn't take a genius to understand that the rules of probability go RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW, when looking at the most extreme ends of the statistical spectrum.

i agree with hikaru on this, but i find the discrepancy with this and hans a bit weird. hikaru is asking for names and numbers of the people who accuse hikaru, when he never provided any when he says top players accuse hans. hikaru did a lot of subtle stuff with hans, but now is like come out and say it to ian. i still am loosely on the side of hans cheating, but i just dont like how hikaru is criticizing things that he did himself.
