I've personally witnessed cheating from the club level to the National level in Radio Controlled Car Racing. I also saw cheating at Pinewood Derby Races for Cub Scouts. I told my nephews to expect cheating in anything competitive.

More power to you Hikaru for covering these things because no other chess main stream personalities are doing that regularly (especially while facing a lawsuit at the moment because of that) this is a very crucial issue which needs proper attention and FIDE really needs to step up their security measures even more + broaden their perspective about the prospects of cheating. The fact that these cases are coming up time and time again is heavily concerning. If you can't prevent players from bringing phone devices in restroom/bathroom (which is, literally the easiest and dumbest way to cheat tbh) how can we expect the authorities to handle advanced cases :')

So if you want an opponent removed, you place a phone in the restroom with some chessgames in various apps and some (fake) accounts logged in to some random social media. Make sure to offer the opponent some drinks prior, and during the game!

And then there's bot use. In a site where rating allows availability for prize opportunities, and the provider dictates the rating by bot controlled games? This lawsuit could become very messy as it opens up so many other questions.

These internet engine providers have no responsibility to FIDE for their contribution to damaging the integrity of the sport? I'm not so sure that's the case. I'm nearly certain FIDE has grounds. What purpose is the for an engine on a mobile device? These providers need to be held accountable for their enablement. The money FIDE has to spend on anti cheating measures alone? But also in a business espionage violation, this damages the credibility of the sport and therefore its ability to monetize its product.

Some people don't understand they only have one life. Instead of enjoying it, they spend their time cheating at chess Seriously, this is just a game. If you like it, buy books/courses, work with them and apply your new knowledge in your games. Since the chess boom, the number of cheaters has increased massively and I'm not able to enjoy online chess in the 2300-2500 rating range because lots of opponents are cheating. This completely kills the experience for people who can tilt pretty easily when they lose, even if this is against cheaters.
I am sad that this also happen OTB. I hope more videos like that will happen to expose them and dissuade others to try instead of wasting the time of everyone, including themselves.

Is real life over the board 'cheating' really cheating, or is it just exploiting weaknesses ?
I think measures are going to get REALLY strict in the next 10-15 years, although similar things happen with crime in other senses, when the prevention gets tougher the perpetrators get craftier.

English lesson for anyone wondering: Cistern is a water tank for, you guessed it, storing water. It is used for toilets or can be a water supply somewhere in the house or in the ground, similar to a well but smaller in size.

What is weird is that there is no pincode on the phone. Let's say he didn't cheat and someone tries to cheat him. Great way is to put a phone there without a pincode.
