That feel when Hikaru gets advice from Levy to stare down the camera for the first second or so of the video but he hasn't quite figured out how it works.

A cistern is the water tank containing the water that will be used to flush away the effluent…

Is it possible he was just reviewing the game after the game was already over?

The guy had spastic diarrhea! πŸ’©

Easy solution. No electronics allowed in the venue by anybody. Strip and cavity search at the entrance of the venue. Everyone stays naked till they leave the venue, and I mean everybody. Players, judges, spectators, everybody stripped and no one gets their clothes back till their part in the tournament is over for the day and security checks em out at the entrance.
Sure it's invasive, degrading, and going to be gross with ol man dick flopping around all over the place, but with the money you too end pros play for I'd gladly take that social discomfort vs getting cheated out of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prize money.

Hikaru not knowing what a cistern is at 6:48 is a nice reminder that he is human after all!

just ban toilets. or limit the number of visits.

People who try to make a living from chess are insane. Not worth it at all, the game is nearly solved

After being given the phone and a video of the player using the phone in the restroom with 5 eye witnesses and failed lie detector test Kenneth Regan found no evidence of cheating…. πŸ˜‰

Foarte rusinos !!!!!!! 😒 Dar nimic surprinzator din partea Romaniei

There is no smol dick energy smaller than cheating in chess. Or hacking. Except to troll people. That's different.

Side note, I've used Chessify for a while (though not so much recently), usually to quickly check a position of which I have a diagram, as it can recognize the position based on a picture (either through the camera, or from a screenshot). For example, I'm watching a game live, I want to check the position with an engine, make a couple of moves and so on, I'll just take the app, scan the diagram, set whose move it is and I'm good to go.

It's not very new, but it used to be called something else (I forgot what).

Chess officials need to stop putting metal detectors up at the gate and put them in the bathroom instead.

There is no PIN code because it was set up as a throwaway phone. But more importantly, cheaters are actually stupid.

I might just regulate my free time to playing in brick and mortar clubs and the park.
Hard to cheat when you are facing your opponent and its a speed game as opposed to an hours long game with multiple bathroom breaks.

@GMHikaru Have you ever hear about the "US chess rule 20H. Long absence during play"? My opponent write down my move on his scoresheet and it is his turn to move. However, he just leave the hall and only came back after 5min and make his move. This is not fair for me. I complaint to the TD as I said you are not allow to leave the room when it is your turn to move. But the TD denies my claim and said about that 20H rule. Here is the explanation of the rule. "Players with games in progress should not leave the

playing room for more than 15 minutes without permission from the director. A first offense usually

does not warrant a forfeit unless there is additional evidence suggesting a further rules violation during

    the absence."

The "cistern" is the toilet's water tank.

Of course the phone didn't have a pin code. He was only a 1700.

    Cheating against a 1200 player……..

Holy crap, I opened this because of the title and… I recognize you from Lex Fridman's channel!

Hikaru biting on Gotham's style… Come on, the stare, the new format, topics. Truth: Hikaru doesn't like Gotham being #1 chess-tuber.

Cistern is the back part of the toilet that contains the water

It is impossible to ignore the history of cheating on chess. There is a spectrum from questionable behavior, unethical behavior, possible rule-breaking to unmistakable rule violation. At the club level or local level, many rules can be ignored by incompetent tournament directors. I have been cheated many times in these situations. With younger players, it is probably better to minimize the possibility of outside help as much as possible. I was playing in a tournament in the 1970's and my opponent was chatting with Ken Rogoff in between moves. I asked them to stop and they did. I lost the game. Another tactic that is used is annoying your opponent- coughing, swearing, even assaulting your opponent. This happened in the 1973 NY State High School Championship to me. At the 2000 World Open I complained to Bill Goichberg about him leaving the main tournament hall unattended so the directors could discuss such matters of importance as the proper spelling of perestroika in their own gathering place. At the 1979 World Open I was personally insulted by the president of the USCF after defeating him. He repeatedly called me a sandbagger. I went on to win the under 1900 section with a 10-0 score. I had an acquaintance describe how he was able to defeat Michael Rohde in a tournament by yelling "flag" when his time was down to a few seconds.

How will they monitor chess for cheating when Elon Musk one day starts putting chips in people's heads?

When daddy Hikaru is upset with you, it's over.
Unintentionally savage as usual when analysing a 1700s future in chess πŸ˜΅πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

imagine being a chess player but not thinking to use a burner phone …

I watched a Danya video where he was cheated against, and the person cheating was 1800 rated, with 850 games, all of them shown at 90+% accuracy…. 850 games….

Welly lately lost against a 700 guy while having more than double of that, but it wasn't rated, so i don't mind XD

Doesnt make any sense that he would cheat against that low level player.
And what tournament match 2200 ELO vs 1200 ELO player?!?!?!

Cistern is the thing that holds the water and flush mechanism

He was a 1700 rated GM? Am I tripping that doesnt sound right

Did he get his phone back? If he denies it's his phone then he shouldn't get it back.

A "cistern" is the tank that holds the water ready for the toilet flush.
