The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.
Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

2nd comment: 2016 WCC – This is relevant to the 2023 WCC.
Please agad cover the other decisive game of the Sergey Karjakin vs Magnus Carlsen 2016 WCC (Game 10, where that TALENTLESS patzer won). #suggestion
What happened is that Magnus lost to Sergey AS WHITE in Game 8 but then compensated for a white loss with A WHITE WIN in Game 10. This is what happened to Ding Liren & Nepo for Games 2 & 4 of the 2023 WCC.
Fun fact for Game 8 – 'After the game Carlsen was visibly uncomfortable and left the press conference before it began, potentially incurring a fine of 5% of his prize money to the organizers Agon, and a further 5% to FIDE.[59] FIDE released a statement the following day indicating that the penalty would be imposed.[61] The fine was reduced on appeal to 5% of the prize money (2.5% to Agon and 2.5% to FIDE).[62]'
For Game 10: Wesley So has some interesting thoughts that DEFY STOCKFISH, as Wesley So did in 2021 St Louis Chess 9LX with the move that won the chessc*m 2021 move of the year award. (Wesley So thinks white 'still had an edge' even though the computer says black is slightly winning.)
Some maths:
Why doesn't a drawn match go to the player w/ more black wins (if any) s.t. Sergey Karjakin not Magnus Carlsen is 2016 WCC? Surely a black win is worth more than a white win. But you might argue 2 draws with black amounts to a win with black. Does it? No question about it in chess960, where there's no theory. In chess? Gestalt psychology says the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Other suggestions:
Women's chess
A – Was Kg6 in Dina's 1st GM slaying game in Reykjavik sexism? Like looking down on Dina?
B – Anna Cramling's dad beats Mikhail Tal. #suggestion
C – Philippine women's chess #suggestion – WGM Janelle Frayna, the female Wesley So, upset Georgian GM (really GM not just WGM) Bela Khotenashvili at the 2022 world blitz.
There's a 13-move UNDERPROMOTION puzzle here.

For some reason none of the Philippine channels except Kelvinllovejr even cover this game. LOL. But Janelle did cover the game where e drew against Nemo, so maybe Janelle will cover this game later on.
P.S. Please help get Wesley So on Lex Fridman's podcast. See

This WC match is a rollercoaster unlike Carlsen Fabi where all classical games ended in draw.
Agadmator in full trash talk mode
What a sad tournament, I understand it is wild and entertaining, but the quality has suffered a lot since Magnus declined his tittle
"Pure pain, this is pure pain" -Agad
You teleported that queen to g5 @ 9:12😜
Just look at that position after Rxe6. Look at it! It just looks insane.
I believe that Fisher's Bxh2 might be a worse blunder than this one (off the top of my head). This was an extremely complicated position with all the life in it, while Fisher dropped a bishop on a dead draw to an easy to calculate sequence of moves. Still a bad enough blunder an 1800 like me could find it though.
This was probably the easiest "pause the video moment" I've seen on this channel. It's hard to understand how an elite GM could make such a blunder. I'm a lifer C player and I spotted it immediately. The E pawn is the lynch pin of Nepo's position at that specific moment and he just handed it to Ding. Bizarre.
nepo being nepo
Both Ding and Nepo seem less than thrilled about today's ceremonial opening move!
To Nepo's excuse, the commentators Sachdev, Caruana and Hess were agreeing that it was a reeeaaally complicated position. Fabi did find the idea that Nepo might have had playing f5, but of course, Nepo overlooked the most obvious answer. That's really a shame for him. Hope he will come back to play the last games in a strong style so that we will have a great and entertaining match right until the end – although I am favouring Ding, because of his gentle character.
At the minute 10:46, the black queen is hanging, because of rook to e8
He doesn't have the nerves to be the champion. He blundered against Magnus he blinders here.
i really want Ding to win this
Did somebody say Roller coaster?
I watched the game but Nepo did not resign immediatelly but made another two moves before resigning.
nepo not resigned in this position, three
more moves played.
i did not expect this one from you my favourite chess analyst agadmator😢😢
Just seeing the moves is doable easily in many places. Agadmator is too nice to comply with that capricious request.
As of game 12 we have a completely different move
this will end with the worst champion ever, blunders everywere
If you just want to see the moves, you can go at many places to do so easily. Agadmator is too nice for this capricious request.
Wonderful to see such a wonderful chess game and Dimash Kudaibergen, the best singer in the world, in one video clip. ❤
Ring Ding Ding Ding Ding –
– Sebastian Vettel.
Too over confident in the endgame for nepo knowing he will never lose in that position😂😂😂 we are all guilty of that habit
why you are not watching live
The advantage of playing fast: More time to think how to explain your blunder in the post-match press conference!
He can handle multiple instruments all at once , or maybe at a time😅
I feel bad for both of them. Ding before Ian now. Who the hell do i support
I like seeing the first move and the pacing of these videos
IF DING WINS THE WORLD CHINA WILL INVEST MILLIONS IN CHESS! $$$$❤
And it was after watching this video that it was a completely new life
I don't understand why in every game people bring up Magnus. Yeah he is by far the best player in the world and arguably the best ever. But he doesn't play in the match so he is irrelevant. You diminish those who play the match as if they are some amateurs.
Will anyone explain me why he quoted Daniil Dubov's line on the upscreen?
Truly an amazing game with extraordinary performance, seeing Dimash alongside these two brilliant minds realy made my day. Antonio delivers as always
Watched the game during the day , with commentary from (amongst others) Fabio , but I still HAD TO watch this.
So curious about the "pause the video" moments. 😀
Agadmator analyzing one of my games:
"…and so it is, as of move one, that we have to wonder why this guy doesn't play Golf, instead 🤦♂️".
😜
watching people lose is much more painful than how joyful is to see someone win
One of the most entertaining World Chess Championships I can remember.
I was following the match and waiting to see Ding's defensive capabilites and of a sudden a platter in a gold dish by Nepo for Ding … everyone is human but to see these kind of errors (even last year Nepo got his bishop trapped against Magnus) … stress had the last laugh !
Ian blundered away his chances of becoming the world champ..
Awesome.. come on Ding ..the King
Speaking as someone who blunders away winning positions like it's my job, this is the hardest I've ever related to a GM. Poor Nepo.
Just when Ding looked down and out, Nepo walks face first into a sucker punch.
Ding might even start to think that he's fated to win.
The question is… Whoever wins, would he really be considered the chess world champ? Wonderful championship but… A blunder is not a wonderful game, it's just an emotional match
why Bd7 at 2.08, why not Nc6 first and then Bg4?
i can feel his pain
Ian's position after Rxe6 is so bad Agad didn't think of any option for him except to resign
Please switch off comments for spoilers
Well he blundered a pawn here, he blundered a bishop in the previous one. He took his own crown as the worst blunder of all time
