The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.
Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

nepo fans, don't worry, ding will feel bad and give the point back tomorrow 😛 as he has done throughout this tournament
Nepo deserved to lose the match when he played qh4 giving up a rook for nothing
Nepo was blitzing out moves without calculating at critical moments. He played like a 1500 player not a Super GM and 2 time Candidates winner.
No. He didn’t resign then. Bože bože
NEPO CHOKES ONCE AGAIN!
NEPO CHOKES ONCE AGAIN!
Nepo will win anyway
It would be walk for Magnus to defend WC title against any of these two.
It’s not game 12, it’s game 6 part 2
People called me crazy for saying this match isn’t the top caliber play yet we don’t see things like this usually. While entertaining it makes you realize this match really is just for show because Magnus doesn’t do this and ding game 7 is more testament to this
"And now, this is move, number 3! We have completely new game" 😂 Wish hear someday that!
Easier to watch this than watching a full stream 😂
Nepo blunders Wchampinship 😩🥱😇
Nepo wanted to flag again 😂
Can also what the guest move was 😂 for fun
They actually played a couple more moves after the blunder.
Ian did not resign on move 35, he played Rxh5 and it ended 2 or 3 moves later – but as always, great summary and analysis!
Magnus is The Champion. this tournament is irrelevant.
He did play a couple of moves after the blunder though before resigning
The best move Nepo played is b5. The worst move Nepo played was b4.😅
Interesting fact Agadmator. Rey Enigma plays the Colle system as, for his character, he needed to come up with one system that he felt comfortable with while not revealing too much the identity behind the mask in the Spanish chess circles by playing what his real persona usually plays. He even played it on his game against Karpov on Got Talent Spain's final.
Nepo and Ding played 2-3 more moves after Rxe6. He did not resign soon after that.
7:16 that mix up of the words Ding and King made me remember when you used to mix up Fischer and Bishop. Some chess players have names too much alike chess pieces
8:19 sick burn
The accuracy of both Ding and Nepo was less than 90% . Ding at around 88 and Nepo around 81 . Nerves are starting to show . 😊
Hey Agad, Nepo actually didn't resign in the position you showed but rather captured the knight on h5. Just a small annotation 🙂
What a game. 3 key takeaways for Game 12:
1. Ding's opening choices are quite bizzare but it is working. h3 QGD and the Colle System are both "passive openings" or openings that your waiting for your opponent to create the initiative. That is why you need people like Jorden Van Forrest and Richard Rapport on your team that creates such opening surprises.
2. The rollercoaster of emotions and chess mistakes of this match is absolutely unbelievable. This is the positive effect of Magnus reliving the title because a battle of two evenly match players will produce this absolute nail-bitters.
3. The look of dismay on Nepo's face really humanizes this Top players. At the end of the day, they are all human beings and they can make mistakes and feel such sadness.
Let's be honest now, none of these two is World Champion material compared to Magnus.
Who cares about chess, Dimash is a megastar!
That was literally a nuclear meltdown at the end of the game. This kind of blunders he was doing also against Carlsen back in 2021 and it cost him the title. Well maybe Carlsen would win anyway but he would have much tougher obstacle to jump. Nepo needs to get more stable in critical moments otherwise he will be losing more games again and potentially title yet again
It was painful watching Ian at the end. Felt really bad for him when he spotted his blunder
I haven't been so much disappointed with Ian
Honestly, when Ding was on the edge I was so so close to switching it off, even thinking about not watching tomorrow. But I stuck with it and was rewarded with a truly wild finish. It's been a privilege to watch this championship live. One to remember for decades to come.
Question: why is Ding always shown in the photos with the Chinese flag, but Nepo has the Fide rather than his Russian flag? Is it a political statement by Nepo, sort of the anti-Karajkin manoeuvre? Has Nepo been adopted by Fide?
1:39 In the commentary Fabiano described the opening position as very quiet but with a long term poison.
Antonio almost said "King plays Ding to h1."
The Blunderfest
Nepo: "Yep, it is in this position that I resign, as there is nothing more to be done here."
Ding: "Ok. Let's shake ha-
Agadmator: HELLO EVERYONE
Hey Agad, Ian did not resign at Rxe6 but continued for some moves before resigning.
I was watching the game live but then had to undergo a root canal operation. I checked my phone half way through it to find Nepo was winning. Checked again a few minutes later to find out Ding was winning! At the end of the surgery the bar was dead level😂
This entire match is like watching a Super Bowl where both teams throw 10 interceptions each. It's interesting at first but at some point it becomes a circus and not a prestigious event.
What a roller coaster game!!
We gotta thank Magnus Carles!!!
Ding's LiRook ended the game.
when ding use to colle,
It will ring like in london.
So what do you want to become growing up?

Agad: HELLO EVERYONE
I haven´t seen it yet and always try to avoid youtube befor Antonios video, cause some thumbnails & titles spoil the outcome. Now, looking forward for the game (16:03pm here)
ps.: wow, with so much stuff on the board, incredible that a simple pawn move decides it.
By the way…surprisingly Dings B pawn is stil on B2 and not on B4
Watching the match for an hour and leaving when Nepo was winning and Fabi saying it is almost decided. Returning to see players answer not the most intelligent question thinking match was over. Pikachu face upon the watching the blunder. You cannot write a script like this.
Such a rollercoaster of a game, even crazier live!
This is not simply queen's pawn game, it is Cole system
