The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

If White hadn't played Rfd1 but kept his rooks on the f and c files (let's say Rf5 or just imagine it was Black to move again), then Nb4 could have been met with b3.

    Now Nd3 loses a pawn, while cxb3 allows a much superior version of Fabi's Bd6 idea (Rxc8, Bxc8, Rxf8+, Kxf8, Bd6+ and White picks up the knight).

You can just rightclick the scene (that contains the picture) and do "extend into full screen"

14:02 I do not think it is precise to say that they have agreed to draw, rather after 3 fold repetition game is draw by rules whether they agree or not

No computer analysis and no time is geting Agdmator 1/4 of normal views. You have to update.

I love how Agadmator just refuses to do more than one take and just fixes any issues on the fly.

IF DING WINS🏆 THE WORLD CHINA WILL INVEST MILLIONS IN CHESS! $$❤

This youtuber blundered here quite badly.
    Did anyone else noticed?
What should we do about this blunder?

“We get a very rare continuation”

Hey I play this position all the time!

“It’s really only played by amateurs”

    😮

How Nepo lately keeps giving away games with advantage, keep pissing me off. No champs here even if any of them get to raise the championship cup.

draw by repetition sucks. both players should lose and there should be no champion. i have developed a unique 2 player chess variant that would be much more fun and not end in boring draws. chess sucks now. thanks guys.

Make a section for “just the moves” short version like on the other video

Nepo's facial expressions are worth a study in and of itself. 😄

This game can metaphorically described by my own personal opinion as a corporate ratrace existence with no finish line and ABSOLUTELY no clear cut winners. No matter how long you play and the amount of extensive knowledge you gain, it can all crumble a mere moment in todays standards by a super computer.

Agad saying amateurs play this and the highest rating 1,900 or 2,000
    Mfw I'm 1,680 with highest rating 1,800's

Ding should have resigned the whole game in the beginning. 😂

Ian Liren is a very strong player watching him vs Ding Nepomniachtchi has been an absolute pleasure

Saying 'Sorry about that' and leans to lower the volume 😂 i have been watching your channel since 2016, you rarely miss to do that.. ✌🏻

Based on this match and the previous match with Magnus, it seems like Nepo doesn’t have the killer instinct required to be world chess champion.

Magnus out chasing the ghost of Fischer…………..

Man this tournament shows how powerful magnus is. Lots of respect for Agad for keeping us entertained!

Ding needs to strike with white. Go into a crazy game. How awesome if it was Evans Gambit win for Ding!!! Nepo still licking his wounds. Might work. Advantage Ding! 😍 u Agad

Lots of testing & probing but little conquering. Both, I think, preparing mentally for the final classical game, and I can’t wait. Thz Agadmator.

Was watching GothamChess and had to come back. He is way too clickbaity and excitable for a chess channel

Ian Nepo as White should've played a×b4 a×b4 before playing d4, because GM Fabiano Caruana recommended that, and Ian Nepo admitted in the post-game press conference that he should've done that first.

The explanation for the Rook move by Ding I heard he had said it was to protect his knight

U actually try to be an idiot or does it come naturally?

“vnow” on the quote – classic copy and paste fumble

Hiraku was commenting that in rapid Ian will be the favorite by a significant margin. If he is correct Ding is probably under tremendous pressure. FIDE ELO tell a different story: Ding has a rapid strength advantage. In terms of entertainment value, the absence of Maguns is good, but in terms of the quality of chess, it's not.

fantastic game. should've played f5 sooner. silly bloke ding

Magnus would win this final position both as white and black

After playing great chess to win the WCC the first few games, it's disappointing to see Nepomniachtchi play not to lose. Thanks for the recap!

Thank you magnus for giving up world title so we could witness this kind of play in a WCC.

I hope Ding has something special saved for the last game, I don't see Ian as the WC.
