00:00 Hello Everyone!

The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

  1. Can someone help me out here?
At 7:57, after Ding played rook to d5 (defending the bishop), why wouldn't Nepo play pawn to c4, attacking the rook and threatening to take the bishop on e5? What would black's counter move be to this threat?

  2. A great video for a great game. Don't worry about the length, take care of yourself first. We all hope that your voice will be fully operational again very soon.

  3. Such a disappointment.even if nepo wins this title he won't be able to defend it…we need magnus.he is the only one currently fit for the throne

  4. Love this WCC! Yes, these two arent the two best in the world but these games have been great!

  5. Is it "actively" flagging in a long time control? Surely Ding put himself in the losing position on the clock?

  6. Please have a nice drink of water! Very enjoyable video as always.

  7. Thanks so much, Agad; for bringing us such high quality analysis, even though you are sick.

  8. To modify a Tal quote, Nepo's gxh4 took Ding into a forest where 2+2 = 5 minutes, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.

  9. I am impartial, but I can't see Ding winning the championship being so emotional and mentally weak, that's simply not the cloth champions are cut from.

  10. Would like to see a video on brain freeze, your experience and knowledge of it. Have well known players struggled with it and found a way to overcome it? The word might cover several different types like inattention to time, and panicky thinking.

  11. We have seen Ding bounce back multiple times.
This match can still go to Tiebreaks.
And Thanks to the dynamic style of both the players we are getting interesting games at least.

    Still rooting for Nepo.

  12. Ding Chilling took his name literally and froze for 5 minutes at that critical moment.

  13. arguably the toughest loss ever in professional chess, but mental fortitude is always a part of sports, including chess.

  14. In the last minute his brain stopped working……
    In advantage position…..

    So disappointed with game 7

  15. Nepo lost a game badly trying to flag Magnus last time, its a bit sad he would again resort to this but it means that he will do it again and will rush his moves again and surely lose

  16. Just learnt from chessbase india that it's pronounced as Ding 'Lizhen'

  17. no match result is official until Agad makes a video about it, with that said, what a mental breakdown from Ding, watching everyone screaming for him to move on livestream is surely an experience

  18. I watched some of this match live and kept looking at Dings clock saying he's going to be in trouble

  19. Not flagging, but mentally collapsing to make a move.

  20. Ding completely shut down mentally after h4, with 5-minutes left!!

  21. Omg I'm so sad cos I know why this vid is only 13 mins long

Both ding and Nepo underrated how overwhelming dings position was

    That's insane

  22. Damn he really needed more time. He could have won this for sure

  23. It's okay, Agad. Sometimes parts of our body just don't want to work.

Just yesterday, my left knee called in sick, and my hairline has been on strike since 2021.

  24. excellent video as always, hope your voice will get better soon !
