Who's the most famous player you played…..karpov….Karpov…who…Anatoly Karpov.

What a wholesome video. The older gentleman watching was funny too – the vikings were always fighting!

    "-What's your Name ?
    – I am a doctor, Time Traveler, Doctor Who"

Il already loved the old man but after that… Je simply got me

Now who will marry the Swedish girl one day?

The velvet hammer came down with a sympathetic sigh. That was absolutely epic. If Columbo were female, and a chess GM….

Looks like nobody knows of the Quincy Jones and James Ingram song "Just Once".

Why didn't he take the pawn when he was checked by the pawn near the end?

This is the most wholesome video on YouTube. I was physically smiling the entire time.

Wow! Nothing like being beat by the best. He took it well.

Johnnys passionately-theatrical description of Chess, as he tried to teach a "GrandMaster" the basics, was truly beautiful.

Love this video! What a lovely lady, and beautiful game.

The Doctor stayed as long as he could; he so wished to be heard and valued, and his friend Johnny included him. Loved that

I Love this man energy! fills me with such Joy and enthusiasm

I grew up in NYC and lived there till I was almost 30 and while I am enjoying new adventures elsewhere, this is what I miss the most about NY– you never know what interesting people you're going to meet or what new fun things you're going to run into to do.

I wish we had outdoor tables in my city… Chess players seem to be such interesting people.

I simply love Johnny's passion for the game. And what a good sport!

Hi Anna, this was a lovely interaction between the three of you. I really enjoyed the fun and the respect you all exhibited whilst playing the amazing game of chess.

I just love the energy of this man. This is the kind of wisdom you only get from a random man in a park. And the mysterious man who goes by "doctor" claiming to be a time traveler just showing up and leaving again what the fuck is going on here lol

Wtf ur mom sounds like readers in my listening exercises😂( I’m italian)

Your mum is so modest. It is such a Swedish trait 😄

"If you loose you still win" is a lesson that every chess player should learn

What a charming man! His love of the game is only exceeded by his love of people! Bravo, sir

Passion is not the word – she has an interest and a talent but it’s he who exudes the passion!

Kind of funny how many good and interesting people you meet at this public chess games.

Your mom is so sweet! I don’t understand lol I love it tho

it was a pleasure listening to your synapsis..awesome job…

It’s amazing to see his excitement to play a grandmaster. He knows he’s gonna lose, but to see the moves played on the board in front of you is an experience itself.

This guy's demeanor reminds me of Richard Feynman.

This is better than scripted! Anna and Pia sharing their Chess experience, and Johnny re-telling Doc what they said (even though he was standing right there)… Classic!

What a great man not to feel scammed,. But to want to play again!

Mom, you’re phenomenal. Your competitor is such a lovely person to explain the game (not knowing of your experience level). Really a heartwarming video. Thank you all so much.

Her "I played Karpov" hahahaha…was enough for me

I grew being a Bobby Fisher fan….despite his wacky behavior….so of course Karpov, Kasparov, Spassky…were names in the chessbooks I practiced from….

I switched though, at 13…to Xiangqi.

The western chess had given me a good understanding of how pieces work together….and ……

My Vietnamese friend (1978) who was sick, one day said "I'm bored, want to learn a game?"

I beat him the second game we played….and all subsquent games against him…

Might be different pieces, but if you know how they move in Xiangqi….and have a western chess grasp…….you have a good start.

    I stopped western chess entirely.

In the first video…him "teaching" the GM…he said Begining Midgame Endgame….

Same in Xiangqi. I bought books in Chinese….some in full characters, some in abbreviated characters….

Books of Openings, midgames, endgames..and full games…..

I'd go through the books….on buses, in patks, in libraries…using my magnetic chess set.

    I was a starving student in university…never played for money… But I'd play…"loser buys lunch" …ir dinner.

Hahaha…in SJSU Student Union….or in San Francisco Chinatown park…..2 or 3 hours a day before or after classes…..

The most common question asked me by Vietnamese and different chinese…..".You're WHITE….you can play?????" (Even though they'd see me sitting there….obviously playing)

My roommate was from HK….and at first…was much better than me. But we'd analyze games together …and play games with no boards….just saying our moves…..till we got lost….then set up the board….and play what we had been doing

I could get to 10-15 moves each before pulling out the board…depending on how messy the fight got.

In the end…I improved to where I won the majority…

It got even better when I moved to Taiwan in 1994. EVERY PARK had stone tables with boards carved/painted on.

It, Xiangqi, was a HUGE part of my life….a great part

I played Xiangqi from 13 to 39…..best finish was like 8th out of 32 players…

    So..not bad, but not great.

I was sitting in a park in Taiwan one day, playing a friend….and two people behind my friend were saying moves a bit too loudly.

I asked them not to kibbitz….it was 1vs1…..they quickly apologized….

They watched a couple games…thrn my friend left.

One of thrm set the board to a position in a game…and said…"why didn't you try this…."….and showed how it would be better.

He gave me his namecard…..top player in Taiwan…..hahaha….we thrn played a game…turned out bad…hahaha…but a great teaching game

    I played #2 and #4 before too…..the closest I cane to a draw was a game vs #2….but all eventually lost….

I quit playing at 39…..my last tournament…..a frakking player, who gad already lost, 2 times said what to play (to my opponent)

    ….in a frakking tournament…

    Sigh

Lovely videos, Anna. Thanks so much for posting them and for your cheerful personality!

omg they're all so wholesome! this is sooo sweet!

I don’t know what I watched to deserve this recommendation, but I’m so glad I got to see these two videos. Really lovely, wholesome content.

12:07 I think this girl is too nervous to interupt but she is like, I SAW ANNA CRAMLING IN PUBLIC, or maybe she just took a picture of chess, IDK, but the first one makes more sense

I loved how cool & relaxed the GM mother was. Now the park player, when asked "Who was the best player who beat you?" can say "Pia Cramling".
