Punishing Beginner Mistakes | Ponziani Opening

Watch live on Twitch: — Follow to get notified when I go live!
In this video I play a rapid chess game against fellow Twitch Streamer vengaard_live () who is a relatively new to chess— only been playing for ~3 months! In the game, I unleash the Ponziani Opening and proceed to show no mercy. I hope this game provides some instructional value when it comes to exploiting common beginner mistakes and using basic tactics to seize the advantage. Towards the end of the game (once I achieved a decisive material advantage) I put more of my focus towards answering various questions from the Twitch Chat. After the game, I provide some basic tips and advice and show how black could have improve the opening play against the Ponziani.

Hi eric, can you please make a video on all chess opening traps please. That should be really helpfull and interesting

Hey Eric when will you stream on twitch again? It has already been a week since last time

4:46 Eric’s response to the concentration question is so good. Legend.

From reading fantasy novels, I pronounce lichess as the plural of lich.

There is no way this guy has only been playing for 3 months.

I like the no mercy on newcomers. Even if it seems harsh, they have to learn somehow.

I am finally seeing timing and piece placement! Not saying I know how to use them but I am finally seeing them now Chess is turning out a blast! Love you and the excitement

If you have key games that you remember that has really affected you, it would be cool if you posted them and discussed it.

19:29 man drops a sick joke and then stares into the abyss contemplating life

I definitely heard that as "if you were a porn what porn would you be"

08:00. If I were black, on move 9, instead of f5, I would go Nxe5. If 11.Bxe5, then Qb4 attacking B5 and threatening Qxb2. If 11. Qxe5 then Qxe5 and just trade to relieve tensions. What do you think?

Eric, very bad opponent, for making a video to learning something…dislike

I think the most important question we have to ask ourselves is how the hell does Rosen keep a straight face when 'fart face' appears on the twitch stream?

"He said he's only been playing for three months. Still, I'm gonna show no mercy, but I'll try to be instructive."

That's the difference between a good teacher and a great one. Eric knows that going easy on someone is not how you help them get better, but he's also not going to be a jerk about crushing them. You give 'em all you've got, and then you teach them what they did wrong afterwards.

Just one of the many reasons that I personally think that Rosen is one of the absolute best chess coaches teaching and playing today.

Thanks for all your hard work and the great content! 👏👏👏

I've fallen into the mistake of moving the bishop early and blocking the queen from defending the pawn. I think I would have been destroyed a lot faster than your opponent. Nice game and commentary.

I'm curious about Bd5 for black on the 8th move instead of castling queen side. I guess it opens up Qg4, but if there are other issues with it, I'm not skilled enough to see those.

6:02 jesus do you have microphones down your throat?😂😅

4:47 it would been great if you pin the other knight. Move the pawn up then get the bishop and pin the queen

What's your favourite theoretical endgame? (queen vs rook, rook vs bishop etc.)

This is probably my favourite type of video on your channel. Thanks for the great content Eric!

10:49 You said "It's 2:12 am for me" and I looked at my clock. Happens to be 2:12 as well. I know it's a coincidence but I'd rather believe you're a prophet Eric 😉

Bishop d5 black move was best when Eric played pawn d4 or any previous move

02:55 Knight e7 is blocking the bishop. Not good..white queen and bishop pinning the Queen no real threats…hence black, Bishop C5 takes control of the center. … after white queen captures pawn at e4 follows a nice beautiful move. Bishop D5. Queen will only have one square left from e4 to g4. From there it should be a good game for black.

"I'll just have to live with the D pawn for now, change my name to Derick." Why did I laugh so hard at that?? 😂

Hey Eric, my favorites videos is when u play against cheaters. We need more stuff like this. This is the most instructives videos

20:21 You are up one of each piece. One queen, one rook, one bishop, one knight, one pawn and since its checkmate your basically up a king as well.

When I was 6 my parents taught me checkers and then chess because of some pediatrician advice. I wasn't very patient at the time but I think it's natural for any child…

It turns out I liked chess and started playing in school and some local tournaments. Too bad I stopped playing in competitions because it's something I don't suck at like other things. I never really stopped playing for fun though. Now I'm back on Lichess thanks to you and the chess bom that recently got me again.

14:00 Very impressive how Eric avoids the copyright trap of the Home by Phillip Phillips opening

"Smart" engine user. Didn't make the BEST moves but held his own. 3 months?? Yea…..no

2:56 after black takes on e4, why doesnt the knight capture on c6? after takes, queen to c6 forking king and rook. after blocking then capture on e4 to go up 2 pawns??
